telling your mom you are pregnant

I am a ftm and I am very nervous to tell my mom I am pregnant. My husband and I have been trying for almost 8 months now but no one knows we have been trying. His mom was extremely happy for us but I fear my mom will be disappointed because she says frequently she is not ready to be a grandma. Would it be inappropriate to tell her via text message? I don't want to see the look of disappointment on her face if she is disappointed because we are very excited about it. I am 26 so it's not like I am too young for this and my husband and I have been together almost 11 years

News like that should be in person. You can lead with we are very excited and happy to tell you that we are expecting. 'I hope you can be happy for us as we want our baby to have the coolest G-MA ever!'

She isn't ready to be a grandma? It's not about her. It's about you and your husband. Just call her and tell her. My parents live 3 hours away. I called my dad and told him we were going to the doctor the next day to confirm and he called me and texted me starting 10 minutes after the time of my appointment.  It's his 8th grandkid. My parents are really excited. And it's my husband's parents first grandkid.

Tomorrow is her birthday so I thought about just getting a birthday card and writing in it "SURPRISE! YOU ARE GOING TO BE A GRANDMA!" Then she can just read it instead of me verbally telling her lol. She scares me. I keep stressing out about telling her so I need to just get it over with to reduce some of my stress

It is both my mom and his mom's first grandchild also. She is the last of her siblings to become a grandparent

Wow, at least you're married. Any mother should proud and ecstatic for you. Don't let anyone take away from your moment. You need support. I'm currently 7 weeks with a boyfriend of only a year and expect the same treatment. This is YOUR life! I have already decided that if my mom isn't happy for me, then I'll back off until she is. No one needs stress on top of an already stressful situation. Good luck and stay strong!

I'm 26 too. I'm the youngest out of my siblings. But there is nothing you can do. She will be happy and it might take her time but she will come around.

Thank you all for your responses. I think I will tell her tomorrow. I need this stress off of me. I already have so many things against me that put me at risk for miscarriage so I need this to go away lol

We did the card. I just wrote "happy mother's day grandma!". My mom and sister weren't all that supportive in the beginning because we hadn't even been married a year and weren't very well off financially, but now that our daughter is here they are great. My mom didn't want to be grandma either. She wanted to be called " glamma" as in glamorous grandma. HAHa yeah right. We told her that wasn't happening. Lol good luck.

My mom made comments about our kitten at the time being the only grandchildren she wanted right then. Well needless to say I got pregnant not to many months after my husband and I got married. I told her over the phone because I was scared to see her look on her face. Needless to say she couldn't have been happier even if I took a few days to sink in. Now we are expecting baby #2 and again I was afraid to tell her even though it had been 5 years. She was alot more supportive then I thought ( not the best time for us right now but I take it as a sign cuz we have been trying for a while ) either way even if ur mom gets mad im sure she wont stay mad.

I'm 27 and this is our 1st. I was 110% sure my mother was going to disown me again, where we wouldn't talk for a yr or 2. I made my man wait to tell anyone till I got the hardest part done. Surprisingly my mother cried with joy and then my boyfriends mothers first response was, "you do know there's other options right?!" Well, that flipped on us. I could care less what his mother thought even though we thought she would be happy. She comes over randomly with baby stuff she just can't pass up while shopping. But it turned out good so you never know and worst case senario, they will come around.
