Also check with your local WIC office if you qualify. some offices will give you one or let you borrow one too.

I definitely agree, check with ur insurance early jus bc it can take awhile.  Mine, however,  was one phone call and pump to arrive in 2-4 business days.  Hopefully that actually happens!

Not true. Even the healthcare.gov website states that it requires MOST to cover it, NOT all. Hopefully yours does, but don't assume it will.

Research the quality of the pump available through insurance before going this route if you plan on pumping regularly. It may be worth the cost of renting through your hospital. All pumps are not created equal.

I agree with thorarb they are required in usa. You can be required to obtain a prescription but your doc can write that for you no problem.

If you live in the U.S, insurance companies are required BY LAW (obamacare) to cover breast pumps. No if ands or buts about it. If your insurance company is telling you they dont cover it thats a crock of crap! Now it may not be a super nice pump but they do have to cover a pump.

Ive been going back and forth with my insurance (Seton) for a while now. One minute I need pre authorization, the next I dont, then I do again, then it's go to this specific medical supplier. Ive been going through it with them for about 8 weeks now and Im due in 2 more weeks!!! Insurance companies are extremely annoying and do not train their personnel in laws and coverage well at all. I get a different answer every time, whether its me calling or my Dr or the medical supplier even!

My suggestion is if you are going through your insurance company, to start way in advance!! Im worried I wont get one now as I can have my baby any day now.

I was told the same thing, mine unfortunately will only cover a manual pump and i have no interest in that. Its absolutely worth checking though! Some insurance also cover car seats! The worst that can happen is they say no  :)

Unfortunately I don't think ALL insurance companies are doing it, but alot are, so call and check! I am also surprised that they didn't tell me I had to have a specific one.... I just told them the item number of the one I was planning on buying and I'm getting it! Yeea!!
