Crib Bumper??

Sorry if this might seem like a dumb question but my youngest baby just turned 6. My mom says crib bumpers are not safe. Is this true?? I remember using them with my first 2 but I know a lot has changed since then. Thanks ladies!

They recommend not using them because the baby can roll into it and suffocate. They sell mesh ones now that are suppose to be safer. I have used them for all my babies and will again. But I also do not have them sleep in their crib until 4 months. They are in mY riim in a bassinet until then. I will also assess the situation first, my girls were never rollers but if this one is I may rethink my decision.

I used a bumper with my first, babies do get all over the place in their cribs (hence the creation of bumpers). I also had little round pillows though to support her in place so she wouldn't scoot and roll and everything. The bumper was just an extra measure, I suppose.
I wouldn't use a bumper without those pillows in place, because baby will be all too glad to bury their face in a soft and cuddly surface.

A lot of ppl use them because they think they are cute. I refuse to! Because of the risk of sids and the baby is helpless, if they get something over their mouths it's game over. Your are not even supposed to use blankets! That is why they have sleep sacks and require one more layer of clothes then us. I'm very cautious about that! Each to their own but I would never forgive myself.

I didn't use them at first but as your child grows they are nice. My daughter just turned one and now that she is older I am not worried about her getting stuck or tangled up in them just make sure you secure them on good.

I'm probably not going to use one this time, I thought my mom was crazy until I actually Googled it. I guess I needed someone else to confirm it lol

Yeah they recommend against them now unless you buy the breathable mesh bumpers. I don't really consider the mesh as a "bumper" though. The whole point of the bumper to me was so they wouldn't hurt their head if they bumped into the rails. The mesh just keeps them from being able to stick a leg or arm through the crib. All three of my kids have had bumpers in their cribs so I really haven't decided yet if this latest baby will or not.

Alot of pediatric Dr don't recommend them because if the baby rolls by accident or something they can get up next to them with their face in them and suffocate from carbon poisoning. They make breathable bumpers that are just mesh that are safer

Hmmm... I am not sure about this, but interested to know. It seems like they sell a lot of them though... I could see how they could be dangerous if not securely fastened.. kinda like how stuffed are not safe in the crib.
