took my time so pls read / smoking

Myth #5: Quitting smoking will be too stressful on my baby.

Fact: Continuing to smoke during pregnancy harms your baby. Quitting smoking does not put extra stress on your baby. Quitting smoking is one of the best things that you can do for your health and your baby’s health during development in the womb and after it is born. By quitting smoking, you will be protecting your infant from the dangers of secondhand smoke and reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Myth #6: Smoking fewer cigarettes during pregnancy is good enough.

Fact: There is no safe level of smoking. Even a few cigarettes a day means harmful chemicals will reach your baby and damage your health. It is never too late to quit. Quitting at any time during pregnancy is likely to reduce the bad effects of smoking on your baby.

Myth #7: If I stop smoking, then I'll gain too much weight.

Fact: Many women are afraid of gaining weight when they quit smoking. If this sounds like you, pregnancy might actually be a good time to quit smoking. Gaining weight is normal and expected as part of a healthy

healthy baby, so this baby will be healthy too.

Fact: Every time you smoke during pregnancy, you put your baby’s health at risk. If you smoked and had a healthy pregnancy in the past, that does not mean your next one will be healthy, too.

Myth #2: There is nothing wrong with having a small baby.

Fact: Low birth weight babies are more likely to have serious health problems than normal weight babies. These problems can affect your baby’s health as a toddler or as an adult. Smoking during pregnancy increases the chances of having a low birth weight baby.

Myth #3: I am three months pregnant. There is no point in stopping now. The damage is done.

Fact: There are benefits to quitting smoking at any stage of your pregnancy. If you quit now, your risk of having a low birth weight baby will be similar to that of a non-smoker. Quitting now also increases the chances your baby’s lungs will work well.

Myth #4: Smoking relaxes me, and being relaxed is better for me and my baby.

Fact: You may feel calmer when smoking, but the results inside your body are quite the opposite. Smoking speeds up your heart rate and increases your blood pressure. Every puff of a cigarette also increases the carbon monoxide in your bloodstream, making less oxygen available to your baby.

The information that wickedxchick put on here about smoking while pregnant is very good. Bcus it may not help every pregnant woman, but it can encourage some to stop while pregnant. I don't like cigarettes personally, I can't judge Bcus I have heard that it is very addicting n can be so hard to stop. N everybody is different it can be easy for some woman to stop cold turkey n not easy for others. I just want the ladies on here that is having a problem with smokingwhile prpregnant. Too Reallly look at the information that she posted on here, n Reallly think about that growing baby inside of them. Bcus at the end of the day babies are never asked to come into this world n us as mother's have to do any n everything to protect our babies. Good luck to you ladies.

I disagree with the comment that we should accept it and not try to educate people about the dangers of smoking while pregnant. There are a lot of really young moms on here and notall do know all the risks with smoking. When they come on here and are worried about their smoking and get tons of comments just telling them that cutting back to what they can is good enough and testimony after testimony saying this person smoked and that person smoked and their kid was fine they get a false sense of security and think it's okay to continue.

Obviously nobody thinks smoking should be ok in pregnancy, they chose to do that. Just as drugs junk food pop and so on. But there is no need to try to educate someone with this info when we all know there is risk with what I stated above. People make choices you or I don't agree with but that's nothing we can control. Might as well accept it ;)

Amen!!!!thankyou for putting this on here!im sick to death of women making excuses for smoking while being pregnant! I smoked for 16 years and tried everything to give up but failed each n every time but the moment I found out I was pregnant with my first baby I stopped cold turkey there n then. The guilt of what smoking could do to my baby was too much! My sister smoked through her whole pregnancy and it made me sick to my stomach for her baby. There is no excuse. My mum smoked with me n my siblings n we all have asthma or allergies which you can directly link to her smoking and some of this was not until adulthood! Even if the baby is born healthy to a mother who smoked does not mean there will not be problems in the future!

I couldn't quit cold turkey, but I haven't had a real cigarette since July 4. I know the e-cig is still nicotine, but I'm almost down to none at all now. I'm proud of myself.

And most important!!
Myth #1: I smoked during my last pregnancy and had a healthy baby, so this baby will be healthy too.

Fact: Every time you smoke during pregnancy, you put your baby’s health at risk. If you smoked and had a healthy pregnancy in the past, that does not mean your next one will be healthy, too.
