I started giving my kids water at about 5 months and watered down juice about 6 months when the pediatrician told me I could. Never heard that kids couldn't have it under age 3. Maybe under 3 months..
Just to let you know about boiling water... I was told that due to the purification process of taps all the microorganisms that boiling would kill have already been filtered/killed, and that boiling boils away water while concentrating any impurities and heat resistant microbes that are in there... just because I would be really ticked off wasting my time boiling water to find out I didn't have to : ) I was also told not to give water under a year which bothered me Bc i would take my daughter out running with me in the jogger and she would sweat and get so thirsty and I would stop on the trail and nurse my perfect girl while being all sweaty and gross... I thought in a situation where she is sweating a bit a little water would be ok but they said absolutely not.
I read it on nbc25 a lady said her daughter died from to much water.. she said the doctors said dont give water to kids under three because their body cant digest the stuff thats in it.. I just found it really weird.. im glad im not the only one whos heard it tho
I don't even give myself tap water eitha bottled or boiled
My first born would get constipated so badly the the doctor said we could give her about an ounce of water with a teaspoon of karro syrup and that would help. That started when she was around 6 weeks when we were getting her used to a bottle for when I went back to work. And she's now almost 2.
Kylir, I have also head that, the public health books for Canada, and also the Mayo clinic guide to parenting. The context though is not that kids can't have water, just that if you give kids to much water, they may not drink enough milk to get the necessary fat and nutrients they require. I don't have the book in front of me right now but I believe it said for the first 6 months and then to still keep water limited until you are sure proper nutrition is received.
Thats what i ment they have milk but when u start the water i was always atold to give cooled boiled water untill there 12 mouths
My children have only ever been given water and milk(breast till one then cows after that). Water is best for your child. I have see to many children with serious dental issues by 3 that have had only juice and fizzy. If u are concerned about the quality of the water you have boil it and store it or buy filtered water. By the way my kids love chilled water the best even as little babies. :-) good luck
Also, the suggestion with the sippy cup is a good one. Just for the sake of keeping things clean it's good to put a little water in the sippy cup instead of formula or milk at least until your baby has learned to drink from the cup without spilling.
You aren't supposed to give just water to babies under a year because it fills them up without giving them nutrition and they are getting plenty of water through the breast milk or formula they drink. Also, there is such a thing as too much water for an infant, but it would take quite a bit to do them any harm. Once they reach a year or are weaned you can give water. Again you just don't want to fill them up on water and nothing else. You are not supposed to give straight juice to little kids because it's too much sugar. You should mix it with water and it should actually be mostly water. But that's really up to you.
I gave my kids sippy cups of water starting around 6 months. They still nursed so the sippy cup was more for fun than anything else.
I've always bought nursery water from the store till they turned 3 months old,,,when they started baby food is when they got tap water,,,,
Ive only ever hurd to give your baby cooled boiled water up to 12 mouths then regula tap water after that
Lol so how every kid survive in this world . ? Come on don't trust crazy site pages . All non sense
I have always done the opposite... I never used formula.. just breastmilk and when she weaned, just water or watered down fresh fruits and veggies. Are you sure you heard that and if so, was it published by monsanto, the government, motts, nestle, etc.? ; )
