Water weight is the amount of water retention in your body.  They check your ankles and hands for swelling, usually means you're retaining too much water & could be sign of preclampsia. Too much salty & sweet foods can be the culprit. You need to push your fluids to push out the salts & sweets. & kick your feet up.  You can tell if its water weight if you are swollen or puffy like around your eyes,  fingers,  ankles. Its common in pregnancy because of our hormones also.
