when does doc usually begin to check for dilation?

I'll be 38 weeks on Thursday and I had my doc appointment yesterday and he didn't check me vaginally and I thought it strange. He checked baby's heart beat and measured my stomach and told me to come back Monday for growth sono. I thought at this point they were supposed to check for dilation or any sign of labor.

Thanks. I'll def speak up on Monday if he doesn't check because I don't want labor sneaking up on me cuz my hospital isn't that close.

Some doctors just don't check unless you complain about something or you ask them to check... I was 39wks when I got checked with my first child and when he did that I actually started have contractions after I left and went into labor later that night... I think that only happened to because I hadn't had sex the whole time I was pregnant with her...
