when to tell your employer about your pregnancy?

Hi, I am 8 weeks now. I am working in an organization from past 8-9 months. When should I tell my employer about my pregnancy? If anyone can share there experience, would be helpful. Thanks..

Legally, they can't fire you for being pregnant. But they can fire you for any BS other reason they decide to make up. I would wait a while before telling them if your company has a track record of letting pregnant woman go. Maybe do some job searching on the side in preparation for a worst case scenario too. Not sure how dependent you are on the income there, but just an idea. Best of luck to you!

I have checked my company policy handbook and there is no clause about maternity. I am scared as I have heard many stories from my colleagues that they have fired few employees on pregnancy reasons. I know as per Australian law it's illegal. But if they give some other reason, then filing a case against is useless. However till now, I haven't been so sick and working with full dedication. I am planning to let them know by next week. Please advice

You can get the eeoc involved if you want to, because if your boys did it to you, it'll happen to others

I told my boss around my 8 weeks cuz I was so sick which was a mistake. He ended up firing me and never gave me a reason why so I assumed it was because of it. Yes I know it's illegal but he probably put down some other stupid reason to fire me

It was helpful to read in the employee handbook about maternity leave before I talked to my boss. You might want to research if you'll be eligible for short term disability also, and research fmla. I told my boss around 4 months. Good luck!
