Actually out of all the ssri antidepressants, extensive studies have shown that zoloft is the safest, showing little to no birth defects. Prozac is also very safe but doctors recommend switching to zoloft by the end of pregnancy to avoid lethargy in infants. Don't always believe the ads on tv. Usually they are directed towards the .4% of cases of mild birth defects. If you need it, take it! I've been on antidepressants for over 12 years. Whenever I've attempted to wean off, I've ended up in the hospital, so stopping during pregnanxy is not an option. Talk to your doctor and ask for the research before you start a medication.

Im struggling with the same issue ! I've been diagnosed with depression since I was 15 and have been on and off of depression medicine. I haven't taken any in 2 yrs. But with this pregnancy I've been pretty down ! Still debating to take it or not !! If you haven't delt with depression for a while and this is just a small episode I would hold off but if its a life long issue then I would consider it.

I was considering zoloft too. The week I'm supposed to get my period I notice a meaness come over me. I feel depressed anxiety and really mean. But it always seems to go away after a week in a half. So I decided not to take it.

If you feel its whats right SF o it. If you think you can hold off do that. Youre the mama and youre going to hear all kinds of opinions but in the end if you need it take it.

I just hate to start taking something if it's something that will blow over but then again I know that my attitude has a toll on baby's well being

Can potentially cause birth defects but stress and depression can also cause issues so if the benefits outweigh the risks do whats best for you. If mamas not healthy baby may not be too.
