Hello, I am new to this forum. I don't think you should stress over being on methadone while pregnant, just make sure the doctors stay completely informed on your treatment. My sister gave birth to a healthy baby girl after being on methadone, she was in hospital for 3 days, and no withdrawls..She is a beautiful little girl now. I am pretty sure I am pregnant, and I am on methadone to help me with my addiction, Ive been on the methadone for 2 1/2 years and have not slipped up once-very happy with my treatment and am not worried that it will harm my unborn child-I will just keep my doctors informed all the way. Good Luck with your pregnancy and your recovery:)
Its hard I've been through it...my daughter was in the NICU and had to be weaned off but she got the best care possible and now she is just fine.
I know someone who was on methadone when pregnant, she has just had her baby, the baby is fine but after 3 days she has started getting withdrawal symptoms of screaming like a pig, being in pain and irregular heart beat. She's in special care baby unit on morphine to try and stop the pain. Poor baby!
I am on methadone and I had my 2nd baby on it and I am pregnant again still on it. My daughter was addicted it was hard but I wouldnt change it cause now I am still clean. My daughter is very smart! It didnt affect her at all. If you go to a mathadone clinic you need to tell them asap they will help out alot.
Well I've done some research its somewhat common these days ,it has been proven that there is no birth defects caused by methadone ,there is a 50 50c chance the baby can go through withdrawl. It can be very dangerous for the mother to detox while pregnant, its very hard on the fetus and can cause a miscarriage . I'm just thankful to be on methadone its helped me stay clean and change my life for the better.
yes you should be worried. you don't want the baby to be born addicted to methadone. but some doctors will keep you on the medicine because it might harm the baby if you come off of it.
