It's listeria that you want to be careful of and is dangerous while pregnant. This is found in uncooked meats, unpasteurized milks and foods that are made with unpasteurized milks. It can also occur in packaged meats, such as hotdogs and deli meats. You should microwave all meats and such before you eat them to avoid the risk of contracting this.
IF you contract listeriosis, you risk miscarriage, preterm labour and stillbirth. Early treatment can prevent infection to the child, but because symptoms can take weeks to appear (upwards of a month after exposure) and often mimic other common viruses it can go undetected.
It's not sandwiches, it's deli meats. More specifically I think it's the store bought in packages, and hot dogs. There's um...UGH I can't think of the word, but there's a bacteria in them. I just tossed whatever meat I was eating in a pan and heated it.
The nutritionist at my WIC office told me to heat up any deli meat I eat in the microwave first until it's hot to the touch. I was wondering if this is the reason you heard that sandwiches aren't safe. The heat's supposed to kill any bacteria that may be on the meat. It also tastes better this way :)
its not the sanwiches but its what you put in them that I think you may be geting worried about, just make sure everything is fresh, if your mashing boiled egg and mixing it with mayo, make sure you dont use fresh egg mayo and the egg is well cooked, all chicken should be cooked properly and if your using deli meats ie ham make sure its fresh and has been stored properly
Sandwiches? Um not being rude, just that's a really random rumor lol, I've never heard of it. This is my second child and I eat sandwiches. some people say meat from the deli isn't good but I'm not sure of the basis on that. But as far as I know you're safe to eat sandwiches :-) enjoy
