Whats ypur opinion on the old names?

Hi all! So Ive been looking at baby names, obviously, and Im still confused as to why all these old names are coming back! However, they seem to be given a nickname-like twist. Popular names right now are ones like Freddie, Frankie, Harry, George, Jonny and Ive lost count of the amount of Charlies are about right now..
I dont mind other people calling their child Henry or Evelyn, its their child, but the sudden popularity of the old names thay our grandparents sport confuses me. Where did it come from?

We are due a little boy in April and our favourite is Dylan Christopher which is a rather modernish name but not over used (obviously those names are maybe hundreds of years old but are still used today as opposed to Arthur or Edmund) and I can just picture him in the school playground with his classmates of Jacks, Charlies, Arthur, Frankies, Georges, Florences, Bettys, Mollys.. It seems the more popular they get the more people are choosing them and not trying to find something a bit more individual.
What do you all think?

I like Issac Jacob which are technically very old names. But since they do have a popularity to them I am going with the Arabic variation of both of them

I have 2 friends with boys named Jack. I don't know any babies named Dylan. I'm going 27 and I went to school with at least 10 DYlan/Dillon. I'm not revealing the name until he's born, mainly bc I'm prepared to change it if someone else chooses the name before me. I'm an Ashley and I hate my name bc it's so common.

ah, I also live in the US and my cousin's 3 year old is named Dylan. However, our almost 1.5 year old daughter's name is Amelia & it's starting to get really popular here too. I've noticed (since we're looking for another girl's name now) that Amelia's been a pretty popular name overseas for quite a few years now. I feel the same as you though, I grew up with a unique, but not outrageously different name and I liked being the only one at school. I would like that for my children too. We are mostly looking at less used classic names since we do want the name to be easily pronounced. It may be too much to ask for though, since my name is spelled exactly how it sounds and people have pronounced it wrong more often than right. Just do what you like and be confident about it.

I agree with ericndomsmom. Just go with what you like. My mother's name was Elizabeth and I will be naming my little girl after her (middle name). My husband and I think the name is classic and beautiful. I don't care about what is unique or popular. Nothing is really unique anyway. And the more "unique" people get, the more ridic the names become, trying to be "the only one."

my sons name will be Jack Charles. too many people are going unique and just going way too outside the norm or lots of people pick up on the unique name and use it so it's no longer unique. go with a name u like. don't bother with what others think

I happen to like the more "Classic" names! They are a lot better than some of the truly ridiculous names I hear these days. My daughter will be Naomi, which was popular way back in the 1890's!

You must not live in the U.S. if you think Dylan is not overused.
