As Lance06 said thats usually what happens. With my second pregnancy they did a pap, breast exam, u/s, went over blood work, and we listened to the heartbeat. I don't remember the first but that was 9 years ago. And sometimes they will not do a u/s as my new dr said if you have one before the 12 week appt. All OBs are different. And with not attempting the heartbeat, I remember them saying at one of my visits that its hard to hear before 10 weeks so they usually wait until 10-12 weeks to hear it, just because the baby is still developing. HTH
They normally go over your bloodwork, and you get a pelvic exam (pap smear). I believe they do try and find the heartbeat, but every office is different. I also get a 12 week ultrasound, the day before my 12 week OB visit.
Not sure about everyones doctors, as they are all different, but this is what goes on with mine.
