Natural Childbirth in a Hospital with a Dr?

I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with our first child.  I've had 2 previous unsuccessful pregnancies that ended around 6 weeks, and we had been trying to get pregnant for about 2.5 years, so I've had quite a bit of time to read and think about things.  I know all the baby books say not to think about delivery methods right now, and instead focus on the fact that I'm no longer throwing up at least once a day, but I think it's important to make decisions now, because I don't want to get really attached to my OB and then find out she doesn't support my birthing choices.

So I'm interested to find out from other Feb 10 Mamas - when do you plan to talk to your OB about birthing choices?  If you have already had a baby, when did you talk to your OB with previous pregnancies?  Did anyone attempt/have natural child birth with a previous pregnancy or plan to try with this one?

I am particularly interested in learning about the experiences of those who had natural deliveries in a hospital with a doctor.  Most of my friends who have done natural had water births with midwives at birthing centers... and though I really love that idea, my husband's entire family are doctors, and I already agreed that it was worth it to keep the peace by giving birth in a hospital with a doctor.

Thoughts?

This is my first baby and I have decided to go with a C-section only because I have 3 herniated discs and have had back problems for over 10 years.  My neuro surgeon seems to think it would be ok, but I don't want to risk it.  I have not told my OB about my decision yet, but I did tell her about my back and she told me it was up to me to talk to my neuro surgeon and decided what is best for me.  I hope that she will support my decisions.  She seems to be very laid back and "go with the flow" type of doctor, so it should not be a problem (fingers crossed).  Anyway, I am planning on discussing it with my OB next appointment which will be my 16 weeks.

It is your body and you know what your body can and cannot handle. Good luck with your decisions!  Keep us posted!

You have to make the choices that are right for YOU as you are the one that's having the baby and am going to have to go through all this!  I was unsure about going natural/drugs and went with an epidural last minute but an unsure what I'm going to do this time around.  I took a 'preparing for childbirth class' through the hospital where the teacher was HUGE into hypnosis. If you go on youtube and even search hypno births or something there are videos of women who have done it.  Women have delivered their babies naturally (no drugs) for thousands of years.  A friend smiled and shrugged her shoulders and said, "Our bodies are made for it."  Best of luck with whatever you decide!
