Only the nasal spray contains the live vaccine which us p/g women cannot recieve. The regular shot version of it is NOT a live virus. Yes, the virus can multiply, but so has the regular infuenza virus and the reg. flu shot protects and if we catch another strain, the symptoms aren't so severe...
There are both pros and cons to getting vaccinated IMP. The vaccine will be a nasal spray that contains a weakened live virus as opposed to the shot contains dead strains of the virus. The nasal spray gives a stronger immune reaction but carries a small risk that the virus will multiply too quickly in people with compromised immunity. Which could potentially cause problems for you and baby.
Thanks to all who posted! I was really undecided about getting the vaccine. I hear both NEGATIVE and POSITIVE thoughts on the matter and I just didn't know what to do! My main concern is my son who will be born in Nov and if there were any side affects that wil affect the baby but my doctor did give me the green light to get the vaccine. I just needed some more reassurance from other pregnant woman.
Thank you for your input ladies and voting - I really want to get it, then I think I have my mind made that Yes, I will get it - then I go back to being extremely paranoid and cautious!!! I mean, we are having our babies right in the smack dab middle of flu season! I keep hearing about these pregnant women who are getting H1N1 and they sadly are dying from it - and it's not like we are in a 3rd world country here... I think that whoever gets it on here we all need to stay in touch and update on how we are doing with it and how our babies are once they are born... ARGH! ST UPID SWINE FLU!!!
You guys are scaring me! Lol. My sister-in-law is a biochemist and actually works at Sanofi in PA making swine flu vaccines. Gosh, after reading all of this I hope it is safe, for her sake and for her two little boys sake!
Me and both my kids will be getting this vaccine, along with the regular flu vaccine!
I will be getting it as well as my 2 year old daughter. :)
I answered this in the other forum as well. I picked yes bc my doctor clearly stated that I should ABSOLUTELY be getting this one and the flu shot.
I hadnt even heard of the vaccine. I would like to get it as I am always worried about these crazy illness' that circulate. The only thing that bothers me, with it being a new vaccine what risks could there be now and later down the road to yourself and the unborn child.
