I would love to call an exterminator, but I have a sneaking idea that it would be a LOT of money. Its a reeeeeaaally old house and there's another tenant upstairs whom I don't trust to keep things clean, to not attract other new mice. And the issue I have with decon or posion if the cats find a dead mouse, even if we don't put it up here, the mice are gonna die where ever they die. And if the cats get one and eat it, then the posion would be in them. I'm gonna wait and see if the cats just being hede doesn't do the trick. I found mouse poo on my coffe table in the living room today, right after I had eaten breakfast. It was GROSS. Lol ahh..the things we'll do for a free house lol.
Oh...I only have seen one mouse since the day we moved in here...that was years ago...we never get mice. I attributed it to the advice of the exterminator...I've never heard that it attracks mice...anything would, I think. We live out in the country and you have to be careful in the fall when field mice go looking for a nice warm place. Good to know they move the Decon around, but we've never had that issue. Maybe because we've never really had a mouse problem.....hmmmm....have to watch out for that I suppose...Hey...maybe that's why exterminators only put it in the basement....maybe it attacks them down there...no clue=)
Well, good luck with finding something that works, Jilly...I know how frustrated you must be. Maybe your best bet would be an exterminator...not sure, but best of luck with it!!!!
ewww I would not use decon at all. Whne we moved to our new house about 14 months ago they had it all over. I have 3 shih zus and one got a hold of some and I ran to the vet. She had her stomach pumped them vitamin K shot and sent home with pills. The vet explained that the mice think the decon is food and calls all the other mice to come eat. It takes 10-17 days for the mouse to slowly die from eating it as it thins the blood and they slooooowly bleed out:( yuck Well the lady before us like I said had it all iver and since we don't they knew they we not getting a free meal! That is what the vet said that it attracts more mice! She also had the high pitched sound that plugged in and they never ran from it. I threw them away when we got here. Well like I said earlier they came when winter came but if you have cats then they will not stay around!!!! I hope your little kitties don't bring you a trophey though like cats love to do! Especially on your counter or table!!! Best of luck.
momuvtwo... Goodness at least it took them away for you! I hate mice!!!!!!!
If you have a basement, you should put Decon along the tops of cement block walls. I have a friend who's an exterminator, and he always tells us that every Aug or Sept that we should put it there. For some reason, it works....we never had mice after that. Because of where you put it, it's not a danger to people or pets.
When we were first married we moved into a rental that had a mouse problem. I would call in an exterminator before baby comes because when we did he pulled away baseboards to find nests & tons of poo- totally more than I would have guessed since I had only saw 1 mouse. From what I hear the problem is usually bigger than it looks- we left that place 10 years ago but the thought of mice still gives me the shivers. I have a plug in item that is suppose to send out a signal to chase away rodents. Safe around other animals...not sure if it does what it says but we haven't ever had a mouse problem since that exterminator 11 years ago.
Oo..thanks for the peppermint essential oil, that I'll have to try. We have cats so I don't want to use regular traps. And I've cleaned everything, they just won't go away. I'm hoping once I get the cats here (they're at the groomers) that they mice will take off. It was like this kinda in our old house but nowhere near this bad. Although, my husband did find the source of the smell, it was a dead mouse behind the fridge. So at least the nasty smell is better now.
I live in the mountians and we got mice in the winter, I opened all my doors even to closets and picked up everything off the floor and they have disapered!
We also got those sticky traps and put some peanutbutter on them and did not fold them and with in 30 min every time we had one.
Now they are gone. It is winter so that is mroeso why they are there but after you clean everything they will go away.
They hate peppermint esential oil too! the have defusers on the net and kit for the whole house.
