The Nursery

Have any of you started on the nursery yet?  When is the best time to do it?  I'm 17.5 weeks, and starting to get the itch to be productive in terms of the baby's room, but I don't want to start too early.  A part of me still feels nervous about the pregnancy.

Have any of you started?  When is a good time to start on this?

Exactly, lol, thank god somebody else out there understands lol. I think we'll be okay too. At least I won't be bored!? :) and its a good prep for a life with kids. And 34kmaray, I think you should paint a pale light pink, lighter even than would be considered baby girl pink. I think pink and navy are so good together, very modern and chic without trying to hard. And perfect for a baby girl too.

Yeah, we do have a really good resale shop in our area, I've already bought clothes there for the baby. And I'm feeling much better now, I think I just had a moment where I felt totally overwhelmed. Were in the middle of renovating our new house and trying to unpack, and then we have to pack up all of the stuff from where we're living and I have 3 cats that all need shots and 2 need to be groomed. Lol and its an old house that is/was so dirty and gross, we've really only done a once over on the room that will be nursery, cuz were using it for box storage right now. We just have so much on our plate, between now and July we want to...get moved in and completely unpacked, get the nursery set up, have a housewarmng party, go away for our 2 year anniversary(just a long weekend tho), baby showers, then baby I guess. I swear I'm missing a few things. Oh well, but we just have to go away for our anniversary because last year 2 days before our 1 year wedding anniversary I had a m/c so we didn't even celebrate or really think about the anniversary at all. I think I'll be okay though, I do like to make lists and even more fun cross things off the list lol.

So I was totally convinced it was a boy, which made nursery prep easy since our to-be nursery already had navy curtains, a navy & gray swirl (modern) print on the guest bed in there & changing table is maple (crib is maple too) with NAVY top. Of course today we found out it's a GIRL!! Totally thrilled, but trying to think of ways to still use the navy colors in a girl's nursery (& I don't want to just be gender-neutral). Any ideas? What color should I paint the walls (with a boy it was going to be a very light blue)?? I could change the curtains, but I love the guest bedspread & changing table so those have to stay...

Oh don't worry! What I have done this time is made a list and each week I look for just a few things when I go to the store. I usually spend like $15-$25 each time. Before I knew it I had everything on my list but the big stuff. Good thing looking at the clearance too!! I have done the same and got sleepers for next winter and a sleeper for Christmas too.

I did forget to say that they give you a bulb suringe at the hospital and sometimes a pacifier. I have bought lots of well all my onsies and gowns at ONce Upon A Child. THey grow out of newborn and smaller sizes so fast they all look new. I got them for $1 a piece. If you have any second hand stores where you live that only take like new stuff it is a good place to buy! I know when you are pregnant anxiety can get bad and couple weeks after that list starts going down you will feel much better!

Ooh...I think I'm gonna have an anxiety attack! Lol eep I don't know if I'm joking or not. The only thing I've bought so far is a little bit of clothes that were on clearance. I am so glad you ladies are here, I feel so overwhelmed right now. There's this ball of fear and nerves and anxiety in my stomach.

Now with my first I thought I needed more then I really did! This is my 5th and I will only be getting what is needed really. IF I see something a little extra that I love I might break though:)

Crib/bedding
dresser
changing table (I used one but some don't)
onsies
socks
burp clothes
hats
towels
washclothes ( I bought extra cheap ones to put over my son when I changed him, never got sprayed:)
bulb suringe
nail clippers
car seat
monitor
bath tub
recieving blankets
diaper bag/hand cleaner
bottles or nursing pads if you are breastfeeding
gowns (which are nice for changing at night time!!)
baby bath , lotion
wipes, none sented as their skin is very sensitive at first!
going home outfit and one for first picture at the hospital
couple outfits for going out
mittens for scratching their face
diaper ointment
diapers
thermometer

that is all you have to have nessisary. THere are other things you will see at the stores of course but they are things you don't have to have.

I do not think I forgot anything!!! Anyone want to add to this??

One thing I know you do not want to get is a sun shade that sticks to the window. THey are hard and in a crash will come off and go flying and can hurt the baby. THey have some that are mesh and pop open to fit in the window that are safe.

I bought a crib, dresser, and changing table.  I doubt I really need a changing table, but I wanted one anyway :D

I already have the bedding and I bought a few hard to find kimono style onsies for the first 2 weeks after birth, which is easier on the umbilical cord.  My mom bought me some essentials as well like blankets and burp cloths.

Its hard for me to wait to buy things!!!! I see things in the store and I get an itch to buy stuff :D

Ok, uhm...I haven't even thought about it. Yikes! Now I feel behind lol. Is there some type of manual that tells you when you should be doing all of this and what you all need? Cuz this is my first child and I have nooo clue what to buy. Or what not to buy! Lol I do know that I'm just painting the walls white and then I'm using stencils all over. I just have to find more boy-y stencils if its a boy. Ooo...please help, how do I know what to get?

Can't wait to see everyone's nursery pictures.

I've already picked out a paint color that will be used whether it's a boy or a girl.  It's a bright green, and really cool!  I think we'll start putting things together soon.  Can't wait!
:-D  We've already bought a dresser, that is still in it's box because I don't want to put it together until we are done painting.  I plan on buying a crib this week because the one I want went on sale at Tar.get. :-D

This is my first child and we have been so excited that we actually bought the crib about 2 weeks ago when I was 15 weeks! As soon as we find out the sex of the baby in 3 weeks we are going to decide on our bedding and then paint!!!

As soon as we find out the sex we will paint the walls. My mom and I went to babies r us today actually and picked out furniture, strollers, etc. :) I may change it depending on the sex, but I am pretty sure I am having a boy now and so the pack and play/stroller is a light blue and brown plaid. It could go both ways so it is almost neutral, but I would like it even for a girl. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, I'm just so excited to find out and start the room next week :)

It couldn't hurt to be prepared and get things done when you are still on the small side. It would probably be more enjoyable than when we get real big and our feet and back hurt :)

I don't want to do the nursery until i know if its a boy or girl. I did however get an itch to do something so I decided to redo my daughters room. its going from a Tinkerbell theme to a ladybug theme. Now that my ultrasound was moved up i only have two weeks to finish and now im thinking i was a bit in over my head. I guess the nursery will just have to wait, thankfully i still have plenty of time.

I decorated after my shower at 7months with DD....we're just reusing her nursery decorations for our son...we used a tropical/underwater theme so it's nice and colorful and gender neutral, lol. as they'll be sharing a room once he starts sleeping through the night, i'm really glad we didn't get too girly!!!

but you can start any time! furniture is generally something gender neutral that you can get early, and you can just hold off on the paint color or the bedding.....just don't put the furniture into place if it's too hard to move to paint, LOL. :)

We painted the room when we were trying, Three weeks ago we got the furniture all put together and set up. I collect things every week at the store also. This is my 5th child and I personally think it is best to get things done now and little at a time as the further along you are you will be bigger and more tired. I have always had the room done by the 7th month before the shower so I could put things away and did not have so much in the way if I still had to set things up. The last month is good to wash things and have your bag ready.

I say go for it!!! You are a few days shy of being in your 5th month. If you are taking classes or anything ther is just more to do the further you get.

I will have the little things bought by 6 months and will finish the room by 7 months and then by the car seat and last big stuff. I am not having a shower till afterwards this time though so I do have to get more it seems like, but that saves stuff like the high chair and bigger stuff for the shower.
