I think there is too much confusion with dates no matter where or what source you use... my thought is if I am 23w3d - I have completed my 23th week and am in my 24th week - when I am 24w I am entering into my 25w.... kind of like I am 23w3d and I will have completed my 24th week on Sunday and I will be 6 months - (completed 5 months 4 weeks) - Ugh.. no matter how you look at it... it is confusing :) - I am just going to say I am pregnant and due in July - you can figure it out yourself!!! Have a great day!
I think you might be right about the book being wrong. My OB measured me today at 24 weeks (Im 24w 3d or something) but why wouldnt I measure at 25 weeks if the book is right?
Most babies are around 8-9 oz at 21 weeks. I do not think that is big nor enough to change your due date. Sounds right on target to me. Mine was 17oz at 21 weeks. now that is big. He measured bigger, well growing even faster the last time. Really it it your due month and that is the two weeks rior and past your due date. THat is what midwifes do is call that period your due month.
I was confused abou this and I ahve after thinking about this come to the conclusion that What to expect when your expecting is wrong. I was 23 weeks and 2 days and by them was in my 24 week but I gave birth to my daughter and becasue she was not "24 weeks they did not try to save her even though she had a heart beat for almost three hours! I have had 4 premature and like when I was 36 1/2 weeks along he was considered premature and not full term. All OB's I have seen including high risk OB's and neonatologist do not count it that way and would not count a 23 week 2 day baby a 24 weeker. Just thought I would throw that out there.
I was SO confused at first!! When I went in to find out if it was a boy or girl the u/s tech said he was measuring about 8oz. But the book said average baby is about 5oz i think. Soooo does that mean......(A) He's huge or (B) I'm further along then I think....LOL
When I went in to the OB I was "21 weeks, about 5 and 1/2 months" is exactly what she said. Now, I am about 23 weeks. So that makes me 6 months in a week? That means I'm 9 months early july....technically I can give birth any day in July then?? & What if I'm earlier than I think.....then really I can give birth a month before my due date?
OK I must be thinking better today:) LOL I get it!
I signed up for the What to Expect on my i.phone. I had to put in my due date, which is July 7th. So, every week, it updates the week. Yesterday I was 24 weeks pregnant, but my application said WEEK 25. So that's what first tipped me off.
Then the second thing was the baby's weight and size at the u/s compared to my baby books. I realized I was always a week behind. I asked my midwife at my last week's appointment and she confirmed that this is correct.
It's so confusing to me though!
I was confused at first too, because some programs say you are 24 weeks if you are 24 weeks and some days.
BUT
What to Expect says if you are 24 weeks, that means you COMPLETED 24 weeks of pregnancy the day you turn 24 weeks 0 days. That means 24 weeks have been completed, therefore you are starting your 25th week. When you turn 25 weeks, you have completed 25 weeks.
Kinda like your birthday....for example, if you are 27 years old and your birthday isn't for a few months from now...you are in your 28th year even though you are 27. On your 28th bday, you have completed 28 years and are beginning your 29th year.
I hope that makes sense!
I went through the same type of thing. My MIL got me this pregnancy calender and I started using and had to fill in all of the dates and I totally screwed it up and had the dates all wrong. Cuz no matter how many times I counted the days out I never ended up at my due date. Lol so I just gave up.
my med help says 25 weeks today?
ok confusing! I thought like 24w 5 days was still week 24, If you count it then that puts us and our delivery dates at 39 not 40 weeks. So confused! All i know is that today i am 25 weeks exactly no plus or minus days. How did you come to this conclusion so i can understand better, my brain is fried right now:)
It is never easy - not to mention we are all with baby brain so thinking, at least for me, has been hard... UGH! Thanks - It makes sense now!
