Thanks a lot.I didn't know they sold the urine strips at a drug store, I'm going to buy some.  By the way I recieved the doppler today and got to listen to my baby's heart rate:} We only got to hear beats between 120-144 about 3 times, the rest of the times, it was picking up my heartbeat.

Yeah that is crazy but always remember this..

A mothers intuition is strong and you will know if something is wrong! You just take care of yourself and do what you can.

I know you can get urine strips at a medical supply store to check for sugar, they are like $7-12 here for loads which will get you through the whole pregnancy.

Then you can get a blood pressure cuff manual or digital and check it yourself. Then with the dopplar you will have the bases covered. Just try to relax and everything will be fine. There are actually loads of midwives here that will answer questions through email! Even doulas! Also if they have any practicing medical schools they will check you out for free! Just a thought.

best of luck

Well I ordered a fetal heart rate doppler and I'm expecting it any day now, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately we don't have a pregnancy resource center here, only for teens and I'm 23. I called the clinic and they have both doctors and midwives and they said to have an appointment not including ultrasound, runs more than $200:{ That's crazy!!!!!! and they don't even want to schedule you unless you have insurance. When they asked me and I said no, they transferred me to a social worker and she said there's no other programs in our area I can benefit from now. It's soooo frustrating ladies. I'm 14 weeks today and with my 1st preg, I had received prenatal care from 6-7 weeks.

try to see if there is a midwife in your area. They usually see you for like 30 dollars just for a check and heart tones. Man that is not right! Hope you are able to get some soon!

Hi. I am the same exact amount of weeks as you are and was in the same boat. I actually had my first U/S in ER...baby was fine at 7 weeks. I had the second one at almost 10 weeks  and that was free at the Pregnancy Resource Center. I had to wait on Medicaid also. I don't have my first official visit on January 11 but that's not to see a doctor. That's to finally get one. Don't worry too much. Make sure you are taking your prenantals. I also discovered that you can fine a doppler to hear the baby heart beat at stores and stuff and some of them actually work. You could try that while you wait.Have you talked to your health department to explain your situation. Also you could go to a pregnancy resource center if you have one where you are or something like that. Good Luck with all of this.

I don't have free healthcare or I would have seen a doctor right away. I am uninsured and prental care outta pocket is unaffordable. Time has just been going by waiting to hear from insurances and MediCal and I've been denied everywhere.

So if you ahve free health care when are you going to the dr? You really need to go and get a scan and blood work and measure the baby. Or see a midwife which is always good when you are not high risk. They are cheaper then OB's and home birth is great! Or even a birth center.

Gee Ladies. I wish I was in Australia now! Our Healthcare here is not the best! I'm giving it one last shot with an insurance for pregnant women. We'll see what gives!

I'm from Australia too but i'm still worried about the costs of raising a baby.
I have a full time job and my partner runs his own business - we've only been trading since feb this year and although we are making money, i dont think its going to cover the costs of a baby plus normal bills, mortgage etc while im off on maternity leave. So i will be saving my little butt off and am trying to think of some other ways to create extra income while im off. Maybe you could do the same babiesrus2? Maybe ebay or something?? A friend of a friend of mine goes to second hand/charity shops, buys cheap stuff and sells them on ebay and she apparently makes a motsa!

Nope. I'm from Australia and all healthcare is free here. We even get a free $5000 'baby bonus' for giving birth.

I can't imagine how worried you must be. What do you plan to do?
