Has the amount of Folic Acid changed

I am a mom of 2 and always took Folic Acid before having a baby and then when pregnant taking a multi Vitamin for the rest of my pregnancy. I have heard the you need to take 4mg of folic acid, rather then 1mg that I took with my first 2. Is this correct or is 1mg the correct amount or is it 4mg? Please help.
Thanks

Most prenatal vitamins have extra folate - I don't know the breakdown of my prenatal.  I'm sure if you do an internet search for the RDA of folate for pregnant women you'd find it!

Well my prenatal pills have 800 mcg.  So I'm guessing thats the right amount, plus i think thats what my dr recommended.
