My perms never come out good when I'm pregnant ughhhhh I always love how thick and long my hair gets but sometimes it's iritating when trying to style
That's definitely good to know that it doesn't harm the baby. Glad you like it!
I'm glad it turned out well, and I hope it stays that way!
Hey everyone, so I decided to go and get the perm because I found out the amount of chemicals aren't NEAR enough to harm the baby. The main issue my stylist told me and what I kept finding on-line is that your hair changes during pregnancy and this can affect the outcome/success of the perm. So far mine has turned out lovely!!! She said that depending on how I take care of my hair and other factors will affect how long it lasts and she says that just because it looks good now doesn't mean it will in 2 weeks-- but that's just the risk of getting a perm. I had a perm a couple of years ago and it lasted almost a year and a half, hopefully this one does too :)
Not in the beginning stages but i think late second to third tri you should be okay
I would just wait too. Don't wanna risk anything....I asked my hairdresser and she said that people usually hold off on the perms. Ya the hairdressers do them but they don't get it on their skin...when you get it done...it seeps into your scalp.
I also asked her about hair dye b/c I was thinking in my last month of getting mine done so I can look my best when baby is born and she said it's not too bad. They can always use a cap so it doesn't even hit your scalp if you don't want it to or they usually brush it on and won't have to go so close.
Really...I think it's mostly your call. What you are comfortable with and what you feel safe with. There are so many chemical things that I worry about. We were using caulking in our room yesterday and I spent half an hour seeing if it was ok for me to do it. LOL
It's just fine. Make sure that the hairdresser knows your pregnant and it's done in a well ventilated area. They do say to wait till the second trimester to do any of that just to be safe.
The only real harm (from what I've heard from some dr's and a few hair dressers) is that the smell can cause issues if it's not well ventilated for both perm and hair coloring. The stuff that sits on your scalp doesn't have enough to soak in to your body to cause any issues.
I'd say if you really want to but your worried, call up your dr's office and see what your dr suggests.
nevermind, I jut saw what Alaysha said and that's what I've always heard as well.
I was wondering the same thing... or what about COLORING your hair???? I wanted to know the same thing!!! :)
My hairdresser does perms all the time, and she worked all through her pregnancy. But it's your call. I highlighted my hair in the second trimester, but that stuff doesn't sit on your scalp, it's mostly confined into the foil.
Id say probably not ok. I know its considered unsafe to bleach or even use some dyes in your hair while pregnant because of the chemicals. Perming is chalk full of chemicals. I would just wait... 5 months isnt that far away.
