Strange but true: Some pregnant women develop the urge to eat dirt, ashes, clay, chalk, ice, laundry starch, baking soda, soap, toothpaste, paint chips, plaster, wax, hair, coffee grounds, and even cigarette butts. This phenomenon is called pica (which is Latin for magpie, a bird that will eat almost anything).
The cause of these cravings isn't entirely understood, but a combination of biochemical, psychological, and cultural factors may be at work. In some studies, these bizarre cravings have been linked to an iron deficiency – even though none of the craved items contain a significant amount of iron.
If you crave non-food items, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're lacking specific nutrients. But make sure you talk to your doctor or midwife and get checked for any underlying physical or psychological problem.
Meanwhile, don't consume any non-food items you're craving (with the exception of ice). Eating these substances can interfere with your body's ability to absorb nutrients and may even cause a deficiency. And eating dirt and most of the other items mentioned can lead to illness, such as lead poisoning or bowel blockage, or, in rare cases, even death.
Craving soap normally means you are to high stressed and need to
Find an alternative healthy way to deal with the stress. Get a second opinion
Get a new doctor to get a second opinion. It is not normal to crave and eat things that are not food. The sooner you get it taken care of the more damage control you can do.
I've tried to stop & I also told my doctor and they didn't say anything besides that's a bad craving
It's call Pica, when you crave things like that during pregnancy. Usually a sign you are lacking in something, so you need to call your doctor and let them know.
Stop eating soap. It is not a food and not good for you. I would consult tour doctor on this non food craving.
