I'm scared amd don't know what to do. please help

I am prescribed hydrocodone by my ob and have been on it my entire pregnancy. I'm due in two days with no signs of labor. Anyways my dr. Is out on leave and I have to see random dr.s the rest of my pregnancy. Well I take my medication as prescribed and I'm out and there was no doctor in the office that able to sign a script for me amd now I'm experiencing full on withdrawals.  I feel very sick and am in serious pain and my stomach is begining to cramp. I'm on the medicine because the risk of withdraeal was greater then the risk of harming the baby. My obs words not mine. I have people offering me medicine that has the same stuff in it as my medication but I'm scared to take ot but feel like I'm getting weak and may give in. I do not want to but I have been a lot of online research and the number one thing everyone is saying is withdrawls this far along can cause fetal dismiss or something like that. I'm scared and don't kniw what to do. I really hope someone can help me soon. I don't want to lose or harm my baby. I need advise... please help.

Yes, I think all should be treated with compassion and respect.  Who chooses to 'need' a medication?  I'm sure you wish you didn't and I would make a comment about your treatment today from the when you go to the birthing center to give birth.

I had a different scenario but with my first pregnancy, I went to the hospital in full labor.  However, I wasn't dilating.  The nurse and charge nurse made fun of me as if I were just being a baby.  Turns out, I was having a complication where my cervix WASN'T opening and wasn't going to open naturally.  I had latent phase labor---  3 full days of contractions 5 minutes apart.  By the time I got to the hospital, I was barfing with every contraction and severely dehydrated.  Baby was in distress.  My doctor was so upset at the way I was treated when I went into labor and delivery and at the time, I didn't think of insisting they keep me or that I be seen by a doctor.  (just checked by triage nurse and supervisor).  Anyway, I remember well how they made me feel a little humiliated like I was faking that 'something' was going on that didn't feel right.  Very irritating.

So, if a doctor calls you back, make mention of the initial response that you got at the birthing center.

Hope it all works out for you hon.

So I'm tryijg to do evetything right. My symtoms are progressing but I still don't want to go in bc I know I'm not dying and I don't feel I'm in an emergency. So I called the birthing center at the er and told them what's going on and they told me I shouldn't be on the medication and acted like I was lying! They made me feel so bad about myself. They looked up my record though and saw I have a legit script and said they'll speak woth a dr and call me back. I hate the health care system in my area. This is exactly the reason I haven't seeked help yet. They shouldn't be allowed to treat me this way over medication prescribed to me!!!

I dont think an OB would give you oxy while pregnant considering its a narcotic.

I agree if you are feeling badly that is best to be seen.  I know that is kind of scary and for a variety of reasons.  At the very least, if your symptoms get worse, that you should go to the ER immediately.

Oh goodness.  I'm sure the poster knows she is addicted.  This is not an insult.

Here's the definition:

http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/drug+addiction

She sounds like a sweet girl and I would imagine that she is hoping to eventually not take it.  And doesn't seem to be insulted at being honest about using the word addiction.  If dependence feels better, I'll use that word. They are pretty interchangeable.  There is no shame in it.  It's something that could happen to anyone in all walks of life.  I would imagine that she is looking long term as well as this short term issue.

Wishing the poster all the best and check out that other forum.  The members there are very experienced and terrific!  Let me know if you if you need help finding the community and hope you get some relief soon!

Yes.  Definitely.  Don't take anything unless a doctor prescribes it for your own safety.  Did you say you are due in two days??  Any chance you are also having things related to labor??

There is a big defence between having an addiction and a physical dependence. Your body will go through withdraw if you have been on pain medications for a long period oftime even if you take it exactly as prescribed. TThe addiction crimes from mental and behavioral dependence. At any rate I really hope the original poster is gettingĀ help right now

I called after hours and they said they would suggest me to go to the er bc there's no way to know what's going on without being looked at. They always say to go to the er though and never have any advice. I don't want to go to the er for withdrawls.  I feel like its not a legit emergency. If my sysmtoms worsen i will go in.

Med help has an excellent forum that I think you will find awesome advise from.  It's the addiction forum.  The community leader of the forum is a woman that takes great pride in helping people and there are many members that can advise you.  some that have been there.  I'll post the link or you can find it in communities above.

The reason why I said addiction is because she has withdrawals if she misses a dose of the medication. That indicates that she is addicted.  Or am I missing something.  Most pain pill addicts start legitimately by treating some kind of pain issue.  And they take them for pain.  But once it crosses over to the reason why you are on them is so that you are not having withdrawals, it becomes an addiction.  And addiction has to be treated in order to not have it anymore.

No one is judging.  I certainly am not.  You are trying to figure out what to do.  I think your only option is to work with a doctor on this.  Either the doctor covering for your primary doctor OR an ER doctor.  That's how one gives the appearance they are doing exactly as what is medically proper for themselves and their baby.

I would think if you are having an acute medical situation, your covering office would see you.  That's on them for not providing proper care.  Here's a trick.  If you want to talk to a doctor, call the office after hours.  It will give you an on call number and you leave a message that you must speak to the physician.  They 9 times out of 10 will call you back.  Sometimes it can take like an hour but they do call back and you can speak directly to a doctor that is handling your regular doctor's cases.

I just don't want you to take someone else's pills, have no prescription yourself and have to explain that.  That is when it gets dicey.  It is dangerous for a mother to withdrawal from narcotics when pregnant--  so doctors SHOULD help you.  But you need to talk to one and not just a grumpy office person.

good luck.  I feel badly you are hurting.

Pls go to er don't worry about being judged. Even if you ran out early they would still have to help you. As long as this hasn't been a recurring issue they won't make a big deal about it I'm sure I had to get a script early since BC of a tooth problem and it was fine.  Your babies life is way more important than what some judgmental butt thinks on the internet

Online posts are the reason I haven't went to the er already. I don't want them to think I'm some kind of junkie and I want to be strong enough to wait until my appt but idk that I can. I would have thought my dr.s office would have back up for these occasions but apparently they don't or I would have already been in. I called them at 10am telling them what was happenimg and they weee rude and told me I have to wait until the apt. Its now almost 7pm where I am. My symptoms are horribke but I'm not worried about myself right now. I'm worried about what my little baby is going through.

Not everyone who is own pain medication has an addiction and fear of being judged keeps people from seeking help in this very situations. Doctors are very strict on pain meds and for good reason. You have to be seen in office to get a prescription if they can't see you go to the hispital . It can be life threatening for baby

Hi.  I answered on your other post.  Your physician has a doctor covering for them (by law) and that doctor has access to your file (by law) and they can see what you've been prescribed and why.  I would call the office and schedule an appointment.

be seen by the covering doctor.  They should prescribe the narcotics for you if your chart shows that they were previously prescribed and on a specific schedule.  They won't give you anymore if you ran out sooner than you were supposed to or something like that.  But they should continue the prescription.

Yes, it is dangerous to go into withdrawal when pregnant as so does the baby.  And sadly, your baby will go into withdrawal when born.  They will have to wean him or her off the narcotics. And hopefully at that time, you can get clean too.

Do NOT take random people's pills. That is going to be a huge problem for you and CPS WILL get involved because those pills aren't tracked to your own prescription when found in your system when you deliver.  You need to be under doctor's care right now because that would jeopardize your being with your baby.  Drug addiction is not taken lightly.  I'm glad your doctor has been reasonable to help you through the pregnancy but there will be some expectations regarding this.

So, you need to talk to the doctor's office that is covering, mention your chart and that you MUST be SEEN.  Go the ER if you have to.

good luck

Go to the er now. If your feeling withdraw the baby is having it way worse this can cause fetal demise. I have same medication through out and before pregnancy. Do not worry about being judged right now and be go front and honest with the hospital staff

You do not want er or l&d to think that you're a drug seeker, especially when pregnant. When you tell them the reason you're there tell them that you have pain. When the doctor sees you mention that your doc is out of town and that he has been prescribing you hydrocodone and tell the him/her that your doctors partners can't see you for your issue right now. It's not uncommon for pregnant women to be prescribed pain meds.... anyways, I know this stuff because I was an emt in emergency for many years.

U should get in contact with ur doctors office and see if one of the other doctors can review ur file and write u a script. I'm sure if ur doctor had u on it another doctor will be able to write u script for the meds. Please don't take anything else as u don't know what that medicine will do to ur baby.
