Medicaid Question

After the baby is born I heard that they make your partner pay child support? Is this true? Even if you're together and under the same roof? I dont want my fiance to have to pay child support so I've been trying to do some research because if I need to I'll just look for other insurance.

It wouldn't be "child support" he would be responsible for either, it would be medical expenses paid to the state.

The reason they do that is because they look at the household income.  You have to include his for your Medicaid benefits (which is the right thing to do---  his income IS part of your income if you are together ---  babies aren't just mom's responsibility but dad's too and the government has to spread the amount of money they have around to everyone that needs it so his income has to offset what they give you, it's only fair to others who need money as well).  They will require child support from the dad to offset what they give you because that is the only way that there is enough money to go around.  Dad's should pay for their children.

this is something to make sure you are fully honest about as there are penalties for fraud in this area.

good luck

They will want the father's income numbers to add to yours to see if you then qualify.  I'm not sure if you are together why it would matter if they require him to pay child support as it would go right back to you both, right?  But what it does do is decrease your benefit amount because you need less if you factor in what he provides.

I was living with my grandmother for a few years and she put me on medicaid. I dont know anything about it and I just moved in recently with my fiance and his parents. I dont want to be accused of fraud so I will definitely put his income on my paperwork thanks ladies!!! And do I need to put my in laws on it too?

I don't think they can force them to pay child support. I will make sure with my fiance he has a 3 yr. Old and the mom was living with him so I don't think they can. Only if you file for child support.
