It just clicked. My fiance was very picky. He would always say "add it to the list" and we ended up with a list of names he thought were just okay. One day I fell in love with a name. I could see calling my son this name throughout his life. It was the first name that clicked with me, I mean I liked other names but they weren't the one. So I told my fiance and for the first time he looked at me and said, "wow, I really like that one". So it looks like we're going to have a little lion, his name is going to be Leo. Leo Alexander.
His middle name is really spelled Niel? Not Neil? If the part of your last name is spelled Niel but his middle name is spelled Neil (which is the usual way to spell that name), your boyfriend might not feel like those two are the same thing.
But if both his middle name and the part of your last name are spelled Niel, he shouldn't object too much.
If it comes down to him saying it is Neil or not at all (in other words, spell it like his name or don't use it), I'd spell it like his name. This is because if you take a name that is always spelled one specific way and spell it another way, the kid is sentenced to a lifetime of either mispronunciation (Niel it would seem to some people to sound like Nile or Knee-El) or misspelling it as Neil.
For my first child i had narrowed down the list to three names. And by the time i delivered her i was so exhausted that he chose the first name off of the list. And her middle name was already confirmed before i was induced.
This is my fourth child and we don't have a name for him yet. The others came without any real thought. No rush though. The name will hit you when it's right.
I got lucky this time. My son's dad & I didn't get along well so it was hard agreeing on one but it was so much better this time. I made a list of names each of us liked & we just event thru them & I took off the ones that whichever one didn't care for. He actually picked her first name (Kyri). Its from a video game Lol. But I loved it from the first time I heard it & I really liked the name Rayne & we both thought they sounded good together & that's how we chose.
