Prenatal Vitamins

Hi Ladies,

My question is how long before TTC should I start taking prenatal vitamins?  My fiancé and I are planning to try immediately after our wedding in April 2015.

Also, what brands of prenatal vitamins do you recommend and why?

Thanks!
Dianne

Hi ladies,
My friend is almost 36 and wanting to conceive ASAP. She is setting up an appointment with the gynecologist of course to talk with her doctor about all of this, but in the meantime, besides taking folic acid and prenatal vitamins, is there any other way to increase fertility? She also has always had very difficult periods, and has been pregnant once before, but lost the pregnancy early on. There is also a history of smoking cigarettes and marijuana, of which both have been stopped. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.

If you are anemic, iron can help both with the anemia and to increase fertility.  That is because anemic women have trouble getting pregnant -- the body is less likely to get pregnant when something is wrong that might make the woman less strong.

Thank you for all your suggestions!

I was told by my doctor that I was iron deficient but I haven't tried any iron supplements yet as I heard it makes you constipated. I'll just wait until I start taking prenatals or I will most likely just find one that already has iron in it.

I didn't know that prenatals can also make you more fertile, I thought it just makes sure your levels are sufficient for you and the baby. Now I know :)

Thank you!

My doc just yold me the day I got my IUD removed to start taking them. And I found a great brand it is GNC womens prenantal with dha. It is ($20) for a months supply. But gnc usually had good deals, I have gotten $11 each box. There are ones that are $50+ per month. It is really all up to you, just find google what a good one has and compare to ones your interested in. Also prenantals can make you more fetrtile. If you get one with iron ,which is good ,make sure you do not over take. Iron can kill the baby.

Best of Luck!

Three months, or at least three months of folic acid before trying to get pregnant.  You could also boost your iron.  I had my doctor look at the label of the kind of prenatals I took and she said they were fine.  That's the easiest way to tell.
