Early sonogram??

My doctor scheduled me for an unregisterd OB sonogram at five weeks.  I was wondering if anyone has had this, and at such an early stage in pregnancy, what the doc is looking for.  It seems that it would be too early to see anything, but maybe I'm wrong.  Thanks for any advice...

jrobertson20- During my sonogram, my doc said he saw a cyst, about 2 cm on my left uterus (I HAVE TWO! and baby is in the right one!) but he said its nothing to worry about, and didn't even give it a second thought???

iys10-How far along are you?  I am about five weeks and they only saw a yolk sac too.  Maybe we are both on target-hopefully!

Nickieb5-thanks:)

they say there is no evidence to support sonograms being unhealthy..they use high frequency sound waves to bounce off of objects and create an image. so if you think about it its SORT OF like playing a really really high pitched dog whistle or something...except even more high pitched than that...you can't even hear it, and neither can the baby!! at least not at this stage of your pregnancy.

I got one done around 4 1/2 weeks and all they could see was a gestational sac and possibly the beginning of a yolk sac.  I went back 2 weeks later and they saw the yolk sac, fetal pole, and a heart beat of 143.  So don't get discouraged.  Look up google images.  That is what I did to prepare my husband for what he was going to see so he wouldn't get disappointed at the appointment.  They did mine so early because I had some spotting and pain on my left side so they just wanted to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.  They happened to find a cyst on my right ovary so that is why I had the second one done (just wanted to make sure it wasn't getting bigger).  I hope everything goes well for you and wish you a happy and healthy 9 months.

I had my sonogram today, and the doc warned me that we wouldn't be able to see much...but he did see a yolk sac and what looked like a fetal pole.  There was a flickering that he assumed was a heartbeat, but it was too slight to be sure...and could have even been blood flowing.  Another sonogram next week just "to relieve my apprehension", so we'll have to see what happens!  Hate waiting!!!

i had an u/s at 5 weeks and all my doc could confirm was that the yolk sac was round shaped and i think the gestational sac was round...2 weeks after that i was sent for another u/s and we confirmed the heart beating

im now just about 14 weeks and things have been smoothly....and im thankful for that

best of luck

I had my first one at 6w5d when my doctor thought that my numbers were high enough to show something definite. I went to a fertility doc and they are very precise and like to know everything that is going on with you before they release you to your normal OB/GYN. If you have had a problem with miscarriages or a problem with a previous pregnancy then they might want to make sure that everything is progressing normally with your pregnancy.
