17 weeks with twins and 25% thinned

I am 17 weeks pregnant with B/G twis and I went to the Dr. last week for cervical length scan and was told everything looked good. After the scan I went to my scheduled OB appointment and she did a internal exam because I had been having BH contractions and she told me that I was 25% thinned but that my cervix was nice and firm. I go back next tuesday to be checked again. My question is since my scan said everything was good what could cause my cervix to be 25% thinned when she checked not even 15 mins later? Should I be worried? Is thinning the same as effaced?

Thinning is the same as being effaced....I do believe.

Carrying a multiple pregnancy is much different than carrying a single pregnancy, which i'm sure you already know. But the changes I suspect will happen a lot sooner. You could be thinning out due to the BH contractions, as they are supposed to ready you for labor, but I never though BH could actually cause physical changes in the body such as being effaced, I only thought that real contractions could do this.

If your doctor thinks that your cervix still looks good, then I wouldn't try to worry to much, especially if your cervix is still firm. Your cervix needs to be soft to efface and dilate. It is possible to have a soft cervix and efface or dilate one week, and then have it change to being firm, with no more changes.

I walked around dilated at 5cm for almost 4 months in my last pregnancy, it didn;t cause me to go into preterm labor, and I carried the baby full term and delivered on my due date.
