2 ectopics and wrong diagnosis on 3rd please help!!!

i have had 2 previous ectopics. the first 1 was in dec 07 and they removed my tube as it ruptured.  the second was in sep 09 and miscarried without surgery. both happened when the hcg reached about 1000, and it had never doubled normally.

3 weeks ago i did a test and it was positive, but i was gettin cramping feelings so decided a&e was the best answer. they checked my hcg which was only 28. 3 days later it had risen to a healthy 148, 2 days later 367, and 2 days later 1030.

they did a scan which showed a empty sac i my uterus which was also seen as a positive sign. 4 days later (this monday just gone) they did another scan which showed a sac with possible yolk and my blood hcg had risen to 6000. the doctor said with a hcg of 6000 they hould have seen more in th ultrasound so it was defiately a ectopic.

that evening they done keyhole surgery to look in my tube but it was empty. i was told it must have miscarried before surgery. i dont understand how this was possible as my hcg was still rising and the sac had grown, and i wasnt bleeding.

i asked for another hcg in the morning after my surgery but they said noo and discharged me without me even being allowed to speak to my consultant.

they have booked me another appointment for this monday to have my bloods and ultrasound done.

what i dont understand is that at 10am i was told that it looked like a normal pregnancy. that at 12pm i needed urgent surgery as it was definatley ectopic, and at 9pm they were sure id miscarried before surgery!

i feel like they shouldnt have done surgery, i feel that this may have caused me to miscarry, and i feel that by not answering my questions straight away they are covering their ow backs.

was this chain of events what any doctor would do/ recommend?  and how long will it be before i start bleeding?

Definately get a letter, they shouldnt and dont normally do that to detect an eptopic, this is what scans are for.make sure you take this futher.you most certainly was not over reacting.

thankyou so much for your replies. yes im from the u and it wasnt a a&e doctor that did the procedure it was a gynae doctor. i dont even know what was done as nobody has told me!! i have had the keyhoole surgery through my belly butto and iv had 2 stitches on my c-section scar but i dont know whats been done! they just said theyd looked in my tube and their was nothing there!

they only said that the reason they done surgery was because my hcg was 6000 and their was no heartbeat. that was the only reason.

i have written a letter to the operating consultant who made the decisions, and i am going to ask for a full signed report so i can take this further.

i am glad you have all answered the way you have because i thought maybe i was over-reacting due to my loss...

thankyou xx

Where from uk are you im also in the uk,have suffered 1 eptopic, every pregnancy from then on,ive been scanned on a regular basis.they will keep a very close eye on you.because of the dangers, and after having 2,then maybe its a time for change of doctors.your doctor IS NOT following the correct procedure,i can promise you that,I dont understand why they would have done key hole surgery.ive had this but never when pregnant, and never heard them doing that.and as far as im aware THEY SHOULDNT have dont that.I would contact nhs direct and report this doctor.

To be honest with you, I dont understand this chain of events either (and please bare in mind I am not a medical doctor).

An ectopic pregnancy is when the pregnancy grows outside of the uterus and in a lot of cases, HCG levels do not rise normally. Sometimes with an ectopic pregnancy, "debris" is seen in the uterus which can make it hard to identify if an ectopic is occuring (since something is seen in the uterus).

In your situation you said a sac was seen IN the uterus which appeared to be developing over time - that doesnt sound like an ectopic pregnancy in my, non medical, opinion.  Also, your HCG levels have been rising normally.

Did you have any other procedure done other than the laproscopy? e.g. a D&C?

Most doctors at the A&E dont have much expertise with OBGYN issues.  I dont know where your follow-up appointment is going to be done but I highly recommend that whatever advice you are given, you follow up with a regular OBGYN.  Give your own doctor a call and tell them the urgency of the matter so you can be seen quickly and get the correct diagnosis "if" something is wrong.

If they saw a sac they should of know where it was!!!!! THat sounds wrong to me and if they saw it and knew it was in the uterus they should of not done surgery! I think I would take your us or get a copy and play it on you pc to see wher the baby was. Se if it was in the uterus! Your levels were going up great and I just do not understand! Just becasue the levles were 6000 and you could not see that much means nothing! Every pregnancy and woman has different levels! If they just took the tube and the baby was in the uterus I would think you are still pregnant! Besides they have to do repeat HCG to make sure they got all the tissue if it was not in the uterus!

Go to another dr and get a second opinioin!
