4 month check up

So today at Mady's 4 month appt. the dc said that her vagina is slightly growing together.  I had to get this $75(YIKES) cream to put on it and to pulll the area apart everyday.  Has anyone had this issue before I guess it is common.  I just never heard of it.

This happened with my daughter also and the doctor caught it at her 4 month check up as well.  He pulled the skin apart himself and it didn't bleed or get irritated, but she did cry for the next few times she would pee.  He just told me to some vasoline or ky jelly on it for a few days until it heals.  We did that and from what I can see the skin isn't sticking together - I still check it every few days just to be sure.  The pediatrician told me that the moisture from a wet diaper can cause the skin to stick together.  He also told me about a case of a 14 year old he treated who had to get rushed to the hospital for ER srugery for the same thing, because she was getting her period and the hole was too small so she was having problems passing the blood and peeing.  So I guess it's good to catch it early and just monitor it.

My sister had this happen to her daughters. Except one of her daughter's fused together so she had to have it cut apart!

It is not rare but I don't think it's incredibly common either. Probably one of those 50/50 chance things.

Don't worry about it too much! The cream should help and your little one will be just fine.

I had this when I was little (4 or 5 years old), and it got SO bad because I didn't tell anyone it was hurting to pee, that I almost had to have it cut back open (YIKES!) It's not a big deal, my mom had to do the same thing with me, open it back up with the cream, I guess it took about a week or so, just make sure you keep an eye on it!
