41 weeks and only 1cm dilated!!!!!

i'm 41 weeks today and only 1cm dilated. would you know if walking up and down the stairs really work? and if there is anything else i could do to induce my labor naturally? and i can't walk outside because it's horrible out here, and i'm afraid to slip.

they didn't tell me. they just want me to come in tomorrow and get monitored. the doc said that talking to my doc about getting induced on friday is too late and if i can't get a hold of her to go in before friday which is tomorrow. i don't know exactly what they will do.

Maybe the baby is just too big and sitting too high to dialate you any further.  They should do an ultrasound at this point and get an idea of your fluid level, since you are a week overdue.  When will the doctor induce if you don't go into labor naturally?

i walked 2 miles the saturday before I went into labor (i went into labor on monday) because I was so restless I COULD NOT sit down..DH and I would get back from walking, I would get anxious, and we got up and walked again...using a pedometer, 2 miles, several hours, and a bunch of rest breaks later, I finally was bushed enough to sit down, lol.

and i went into labor 2 days later so who knows! give it a try...if nothing else it'll be good for you!!!

lol i could probably go power walking but i don't know how long i could do it. i have been walking up and down the stairs maybe three times and my legs feel like they're going to give up on me. but i keep taking breaks, hoping tonight i will go in!!!

if you can walk my friend went power walking and it worked for her, 5 minutes after her water broke!!

LOL you never know..I went shopping the day I was due because I figured that NOBODY delivers on their due date..well I went into labor 2 hours later, lol.

i understand about the sex...I'm 16 1/2 wks right now and want nothing to do with it...but I did have sex the night before I went into labor so I dunno if it helped.

thanks! i'm going to try walking but i'm not really interested in sex at this point. the doc at the hospital wants me to come in tomorrow and get monitored. and i want the baby before the weekend, ahaha. yeah wishful thinking, i think.

lots of sex....female orgasm stimulates uterine contractions, and male sperm carries a hormone that softens your cervix....you can try the stairs it might help to loosen the bag of waters but i doubt it. you can try having your midwife/OB strip your membranes and see if that helps but I wouldn't recommend it.

otherwise there's a lot of theories of how to get labor going (drinking this or that, rubbing this or that on your cervix) but most likely you're going to have to hang in there for another week and hope to pop before they try to induce you after 42wks....a friend of mine refused to be induced so she went 42 1/2 wks and her baby was huge it was a very difficult delivery, and of course he swallowed meconium.
