I agree with penswriter. most doctors will prescribe pain medication in small amounts during pregnancy because pain is not good for a baby, BUT....you should not..I repeat SHOULD NOT take anything that your doctor has not prescribed. most doctors do occasional urine and/or blood screens and any drugs that show up on your test results that you are not being prescribed with your OBs knowledge will be reported, and any potential problems MUST be monitored by your doctor so they know what to expect when your baby is born and if, God forbid, the baby comes early and cannot breathe right...these meds can make the problem worse.

do not start taking the meds unless you get them prescribed BY YOUR OB. just ask him, you would be surprised how most doctors look at pain management during pregnancy but you should NOT go behind his back.

you asked his sister to pretend to be you and do what, call your doctor and ask? most likely they'll want to see you, for this exact reason some people fake calls to get drugs and this is a HUGE red flag. if they discovered that someone else was calling on your behalf to ask for pain meds you would get in huge trouble.

Percocet is a class C drug and it's not known whether it causes birth defects or not. I don't know too much about lortabs. I think it's harmful in large doses and it has codeine in it I believe. You never want to take anything without talking to your doctor first. That's what they're there for. Talk to them before you take anything.

do not take anything unless your doctor prescribes them to YOU! and yes it can affect the baby. if you're in pain get over the fear and talk to your doc.
