6 weeks 1 day with HCG level of 55,000?

Hi ladies,

I have a question. My last period was on 11/12/2012 which makes me 6 weeks 1 day. I saw my OB today because I was having some spotting. I had my blood work done today and am scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow at 2:00. In the meanwhile, my blood work came back and my HCG level is 55,000. My doctor said it was to high to be 6 weeks 1 day. He told me that either my dates are wrong or I'm carrying multiples. I know my dates aren't wrong because I use a fertility tracker so I know exactly when my period came, how heavy it was and so on. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

At 5w6d my levels were 32000 so if they double every 24-48 hours I would have been at around 64000 at 6w1d-6w2d. I had one normal, healthy baby girl.

your probably carrying twins or mayb even triplets. thats crazy high for 6 weeks

Oh man I feel so much better seeing that!!! Don't get me wrong, I've been trying to have a baby for 5 years but two freaks me out! :) Thank you!!!

hCG levels have a wide range of normal. This is a chart of typical ranges you would see based on weeks.

3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7,650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
Postmenopausal: <9.5 mIU/ml

Yours are perfectly in range of 6 weeks. They're on the higher end, but still well within range.
