I was debating the same thing, I have 2 stepsons I'm very close with their 14 & 9, I haven't discussed it with them but I'd love for them to be there, this is my first child & I really want them to feel apart of it since their mom has had 2 other kids & have never been involved them with anything & I want our bond to be stronger! I think if ur children are comfortable with being in the room, I don't see with not!
For one delivery I had my 7 yo there for everything but the actual pushing part.
Another one I had my 7 yo and my 14 mo old in the room the entire time.
The next one my kids were 12, 5, and almost 4 and they were in the room for the entire time.
With my last one all of my kids stayed home. I wanted one birth with peace and quiet LOL.
I prepared my kids with what to expect by talking with them and letting them watch the birthing shows on TLC. During the time they were in the room, they were never in a position to actually see between my legs, but could see as soon as the baby was lifted up.
I let my kids chose. my parents are always there in case they just want to wait in the waiting room. my oldest is too grossed out by it. the rest think it's so cool!
I think it depends on ur hospitals policies just give them a call and ask!
