Very common bacteria to have in western countries... All that processed white flour and sugar... Strep B bacteria love it! There is a tiny chance in pregnancy that this bacteria will cause an infection in the new born. No need to worry, they will just offer you an IV antibiotic during birth (at least 4 hours before birth, otherwise it doesn't get into yours and the baby's system to provide adequate protection, so don't wait too long to go to hospital if you want the IV).
But if you are too late or have a quick birth or just don't want antibiotics, the chances of anything happening are still very low and they just monitor your baby afterwards instead, and if there are any bad symptoms they give them antibiotics. I chose not to get preventative antibiotics as they can lower babies immunity and give them a poorer start in life and instead I monitored my baby's heart rate, skin tone and breathing rate every 4 hours for the first 72 hours. (I was at home, but nurses will monitor for you if you're in hospital). I'm pretty sure in the UK they don't even test for it anymore and just monitor every baby instead.
There is a 1% chance of your spreading it to your child. You can choose to have antibiotics, an alternative, or not have any antibiotics administrated. It's a very very very small chance of exposure.
I had it to. My Dr said its a lot more common now and about 85-90% of women have it I was on antibiotics and had a healthy baby girl that's 3 days old now I had a natural birth and only took 27 mins to deliver
Thank you guys , i was really freaked out . Im a ftMOMMIE
I was positive with my daughter and didn't have a c section. Like she said above you just have to have antibotics during delivery. I'm crossing my fingers I don't have it again this time.
No I've tested positive with my first three kids it just means that they will have to run an antibiotic through your iv to protect the birth of your child.
