Abusive neighbours.

Just wondering if anyone could help or give advise.
We moved into our new house on 2/2/09. We were so excited. I will always remember it coz it started snowing that day. Well we've had problems with our neighbours since. They play loud music so loud it vibrates through DS cot. If i go round they threaten me, and seeing as im home alone most night's as my DH is working i get scared. Easter weekend they were playing music past 11pm so i rand police they said they dont deal with noise complaints, so i go next door asked them to turn it down which resulted in a man being an inch from my face hign as a kite and drunk shouting at me that he's guna f*ck me up, gunna f*ck my face in, I'm dead etc... So i called the police which didn't do anything. I've called the council who wont help. I cant afford to move i have paid of my FIL's loan for this one yet. I'm thinking of making myself homeless because i cant cope. I cry all the time i've been diagnosed as depressed. DS dont sleep because of the noise and so then i dont. I'm back at work on a 1-2 hrs sleep on a 10-11hr shift. Im tired, scared, fed up and no one will help any ideas ladies?
Because i'm serious when i say i need help.

That's awful! And they should definitely be arrested for threatening your life.

i'd love to, tonight seeing as they've started up again. But i promised DH i wouldn't go out there alone again, coz i'm so angry i'll snap and launch myself at one of them. And seeing as im home alone with DS upstairs and that i'm preggers not a good idea.

That's a really good suggestion by heatherlynn... even if you forget the noise nuisance all together, the police can't ignore the fact that they're threatening you and if you have proof that might help your cause.

a threat is assault...tell the police you'd like to press charges...proof would be helpful though oike someone else said.  if the police don't do their job, call the state police to report them and your situation.

what about hiding a recorder in your pocket next time you ask them to turn down music or be quiet and when they threaten you...take that to the police. terroristic threats are zero tolerance....at least i think they are. and if you fear for your life then the police SHOULD do something. and if you have the recorder then they have proof.

That might be your only option (moving) if the noise/threats keep up, especially since you've gone through all the steps they require in court.  I'm sorry you're put in that situation... it's not fair at all.

Thanks hun i done all that i have 3 months worth of noise and nuisence complaints diaries they've set up a recorder to record it and even though they can hear it they said they want to come round when the music is on so they can be witness IF it goes to court, so i ring them up but because they take so long to get here it's already stopped.
Thank you all for your sympothy but i think my only option is to move.
Thanks wendy i'll look on that site too.

That's absolutely insane that you should have to put up with that kind of behavior!  Doing a quick search, I found this website, which seems to have some helpful info on it.

http://www.environmental-protection.org.uk/noise/environmental-noise/noise-pollution/

I'm including this part here so that you know you should NOT be ignored:

"Contact the environmental health department of your local authority. They must investigate your complaint. If they agree that the noise is a nuisance they will contact the offender – informally at first, but with an abatement notice if necessary. If the offender fails to comply with the notice, proceedings can be taken in the Magistrates Court (Sheriff Court in Scotland) or an injunction sought in the High Court."

Good luck... you don't need that kind of stress and neither does your son.

the police should definitely have dealt with the threats and i think the noise complaints too. perhaps you could get a solicitor to persuade the police to do their job...or ask to speak to someone in charge with the police and when they ask why tell them you're unhappy that they did nothing about you being threatened. i'd discuss it with your dr too as he/she may be able to help because it will undoubtedly be affecting your depression. good luck.
