Afraid to call the Dr... 29 weeks - Thoughts??

Some of you know my history - everytime I call the dr or see him lately he sends me to L & D. I am home on bedrest - tore through my cerclage - 2 cm dialated and contract throughout the day.  Things have been pretty calm -besides the usual waking up and feeling like I did 10000 situps and loose stool - but yesterday I felt even worse.  Went to the store to get dog food and (TMI..sorry) - I thought I was going to poo my pants in the middle of the dog isle..because my cramps were so bad.... I can't go poo in public so I got home as fast as I could and all was okay - but the crampiness continued all day.. in my back and abdomen.  I laid down for the rest of the day.  Had the kids last night and did their ususal Monday night routine - got them into bed and felt pretty icky.  Went to the potty and when I wiped there was pink/red tinged something or other on the tp.  Laid down.  DS (mommys little angel) came in at 2 am (he NEVER gets up unless he has a fever) and he was rubbing my legs and telling me he just wanted to hold me (he is 5) - I crawled into his bed with him and after some serious hugging he fell asleep.  Woke up this am and again with the continous cramps - back and lower abdomen and the pink/red stuff on the tp.  I had two really hard contractions last night in bed and I felt sharp shooting pains in my cervix area - and today I feel like my insides are going to fall out.  My question is.... I have a DR appointment tomorrow morning - should I just wait until then.... call them this morning or see if anything else progresses throughout the day?  I just hate going to L&D - the examine me so much they bring on contractions then keep me for monitoring because I am contracting.... Any thoughts would be would help - Ioh - BTW for those of you who do not know.. I had my first at 32 weeks - preterm labor for 15 weeks and I dialated from 4 cm to 8 cm with 3 contractions - thats it... I have incompetent cervix and preterm labor. UGH!

That's the exact same stuff I used with my last pregnancy for a yeast infection. I think it's perfectly fine.  Of course I wasn't dialated at the time, as long as you AREN'T leaking fluid I don't really think it would matter if you are dialated some.  It is a good idea to get checked to make sure you aren't though.  Just keep in mind that in order to check they will have to do a pelvic exam and take a swab which means it could aggravate your cervix so don't be surprised if you have some mild bleeding or carmping afterwards.

No not necessarily.  It just means they have not conducted enough actual controlled setting tests or expirements to determine the effects.  The majority of ob's only prescribe Catagory C drugs that have been prescribed to pregnant women for awhile with no adverse affects.  What is the yeast med they put you on?

I found this, it's more detailed information abuot the pregnancy warnings for that med:

http://www.drugs.com/pregnancy/nitrofurantoin.html

From what I read it seems ok to take it.  It's a catagory B drug which is better than a lot of the crap ob's prescribe for pregnant women.  It also specifies the reason why it should be taken in the last few weeks or while in labor.  Hope this helps put your mind at ease some on this med.

Usually I see do not use if you are prego - but this one is weird...

PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Nitrofurantoin while you are pregnant. Do NOT take Nitrofurantoin if you are at term (38 to 42 weeks pregnant), if you are about to go into labor, or if you are in labor. Nitrofurantoin is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed infants younger than 1 month old while you are taking Nitrofurantoin . If your child is older than 1 month, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

I have never heard of the anitbiotic - it is Nitrofurantn - and I find it ironic that I am on pelvic rest and was told by the nurse - do not stick anything up your vagina - however now I am to put medicine up there - All I could think of last night (I did use it and thought of all of this after) was it getting up to the baby and her trying to swallow it if it entered the fluid - I know it is crazy - but hey.. I am on bedrest .. home alone ALL DAY - so of couse I am losing my mind (heheh) I told the Dr that I use difucan usually but I never had a yeast infection while prego... who knows - I just want my appointment to be here soon.

LMAO, sorry I had to laugh at that last line.  What medication did they put you on for the UTI?  I've never heard of a med having that kind of warning either.  I also agree it's best to wait on the yeast meds.  I would ask your doctor about something like oral diflucan.  That way you aren't introducing anything foreign into the vagina.  Diflucan usually is pretty effective as well.  Good luck.  Let us know what the doc says.

Curious - I was up worried most of the night.  The antibiotic clearly stated on its warning to not take this med if you are 38 to 40 weeks pregnant - in labor or could be close to labor.. WTF is that - I have NEVER seen that on a warning label... SO I am a tad worried about that - but the vaginal yeast suppositories are worring me the most.  I am 2cm dialiated - they did not check if I was leaking fluid - I feel constant drips all day long (which I contribute to bladder infection and baby kicks) but if it was not pee - I am putting meds right up there... I have a dr appointment at 11:00 am EST so I am going to ask - but it just does not seem right to shove meds up there if I am open.... I was told to only put it in a little  - not to touch my cervix... but now I am worried ... Thoughts?  Oh - and now instead of pink when I wipe it is orange from the meds... Wonderful.  Loose poo... orange pee and yeast meds.. I AM SOOOO ATTRACTIVE!!!!

I'm glad you went in, both of those need to be treated in order to make you feel better and reduce the risks for baby.  I'm also glad that it was something minor compared to what it could have been.

I'm glad you are going in, I know it is hard to keep going into L & D, but I had my first baby at 28 weeks and had no clue he was coming, babies born at this gestation have an excellent chance of making it, but still usually need some kind of intensive care! I am currently pregnant with baby #4 (24 weeks) and if i had the same symptoms as you I would go in just to be safe! I hope it ends up that there was no really reason to worry, but better to be there and not need it than have a baby at 29 weeks at home! I will pray for you and your baby! good luck and keep us posted!
