Allergy meds

Hi!  My daughter (28) is pregnant with her first child due this  August.  Her OB and PCP told her that taking her clarinex was OK.  She is miserable without it and right now has a wicked cold.  I have been reading now that clarinex is OK to take and other sites saying it is not OK.  She is 21 weeks right now.  Why would they say it is OK if it isn't? Thanks for any info.

I was on Allegra the first 20 weeks or so of my pregnancy to help with my allergies; I've also been on prescription asthma medicines since before I found out I was pregnant, and they have me on steroid medications right now to treat it since it's gotten pretty bad. At every stage they've said the baby would be fine, and she is fine...last time I saw her she was yawning and kicking up a storm. :)

Trust your doctors; they wouldn't let us take anything that was bad for the baby.

I'm 23 weeks & I've taken Claritin the whole time. My obgyn said it was ok to take. Sometimes when I look things up I second guess myself to. Your Dr wouldn't of okayed it unless she was certain.

I also have really bad allergies and take medicine all year round. I'm 20 weeks and also due in August. I stopped taking my meds at first and was completely miserable with bad headaches and allergies. My OB told me that I was aloud to take my Claritin d for now but since the decongestant can make your blood pressure go up I will just have to watch as I get closer to my due date. She told me I could switch to regular Claritin if this start to effect my blood pressure. So I would always ask her OB but my doctor didn't really have any other concerns about it. Good luck and Congrats to you both!

You'll find a lot of conflicting info on the internet about medicines to take while pregnant. I've used the website safe fetus . com to look up the drug classifications of medicines.

If her OB and PCP are okaying this medicine, then it's okay for her to be taking it. All OB's vary on what they allow, but if they say it's okay, then I would continue to use it.
