Just thought i would update everyone had scan done on 4th Feb,showed gestational sac still growing,(had increased in size to nearly 17mm) but still nothing else, they sent me home and said there was still a small possibility it may appear within the next week. I knew it was'nt going to but i understand they have to follow procedure, anyway went back today,10th Feb for re scan and sac is now measuring 18mm and is still empty so given that there is still nothing in it and the growth rate over the last 6 days has only been just over 1mm they have today diagnosed a missed miscarriage. Absolutely devastated but have been preparing for it from the outset really as i sounds silly but i just knew inside something was'nt right. I am booked in for 16th Feb for surgery to remove it. I wanted to update this thread as a lot of things i have come across on the internet give you the original question and you look at it and think oh that sounds like me but then go to see how it turned out and theres no follow up so i hope that this may all be of use to someone in a similar situation, having said that i hope anyone in a similar situation has a much happier outcome than me but i think at times like these hope is good realism is essential. Best of luck to everyone and thanks to all who offered my help and kind words.xxxxxx
Hi, thats great thank you, i'm going to definately ask for it to be checked if it has'nt been so already. Does anyone know if its too late now to start taking the progesterone supplements, according to the scan dates i'm now coming upto 6 weeks. Will it do any good if i start taking them now as i read that they need to be started when you actually ovulate or as soon as possible afterwards??? Many thanks again.xxx
Hi
Just thought id add a quick comment, im too in the UK and when i was last being monitored in Early Pregnancy i asked for my progestorone to be tested, they dont offer it you unless youve had 3 miscarriages over here but its on the same form so it wont cause more work for them (so to speak) but you can defo request it to be tested.
I hope you have a healthy 9months :-D
Thank you for your advice, will see my doctor tomorrow i think, hope everything goes well for you.xxx
I should probably clarify- I have been pregnant 6 times (currently in my 6th pregnancy). I have three little girls and have had two miscarriages. First three pregnancies I didn't have Progesterone and only one ended in miscarriage. But I don't know if I had PCOS develop until after my second daughter.
Okay so that's all confusing. I'll just answer your question! LOL! My first miscarriage was gradual bleeding. Second I started spotting but the Progesterone caused the bleeding to stop. However my little bean already died and the gestational sac was already breaking up. Progesterone tells your body you are pregnant and helps sustain a pregnancy.
Low or no Progesterone in a viable pregnancy (or a pregnancy that is successful and alive) will prevent you from miscarrying. However if you have a chemical pregnancy, blighted ovum or other problems with the fertilized egg you will miscarry whether you have the Progesterone or not; it just drags out the miscarriage process.
Progesterone is not routinely checked here unless a woman has had issues. Having been trying for so long I think your doctor should check and supplement you just in case!
Hi thank you for your response, very much appreciated. I am in the uk and im not sure if they routinely test your progesterone levels here?? Not heard any mention of it. Will ring my doctor on Monday morning and ask. Thank you so much.So worried,my 4 daughters were straight forward with no problems whatsoever so this is a completly different thing to me :0( Sorry to drag up hurt but when you had your loss did the bleeding start gradually as mine is or as a sudden loss? It just seems so confusing where the bleeding is (sorry if tmi) but old blood, brown very light only when going to the toilet i see it on tissue, and it keeps stopping and starting?? Congratulations on your pregnancy and huge amounts of very sticky baby dust to you.xxx
The pregnancy that I miscarried my hCG was rising appropriately but my Progesterone began dropping. I started bleeding and miscarried before the Progesterone supplements made a difference. I believe I wouldn't have miscarried if I had the Progesterone but I won't know until I die and meet God.
Anyway the pregnancy after my loss I started taking Progesterone right away and had my baby girl full-term. This pregnancy my hCG was rising again but the Progesterone dropped again. This time I got supplements on time (I think! I still don't know as I haven't had sonograms to see if there's a little bean growing and living in there).
All of that is to say- did they check your Progesterone? If it is low (I consider under 20 low but most docs consider under 15 low) then you may need to supplement!
