I think if thats the blood draw test for d.s yes ive had it. My result was 1 in 10,000 so negative. I was really scared with this test because you can be the healthiest person in the world but you still have that chance. Although my doctor told me its more common in older women
Yes I did it too and all my results came back negative so I didn't carry on with it further
Amniocentises is not a blood test. It is considered an invasive procedure in which a needle is passed through the stomach and into the amniotic sac to draw out fluids to assess the chromosome for abnormalities associated with down's syndrome. The procedure does carry a risk but everyone is different and much has to do with your age, health and past history. Discuss the risks, pros and cons with your OB, and decide if you wish to continue with testing.
Ive had this done because I had bad NT results .. everything came back normal .. it is nerve wreaking but its good to know for sure .. I cpuldnt have imagined waiting like 5 months to see how my baby was and the not knowing and wondering and worrying its too much stress .. I wish u the best of luck do whats best for u and for ur baby
Amnio is not a blood test. They take a needle thru your stomach to your amnio sac. IT HURTS ! Also it has a risk of causing Down syndrome. I say if you will love your baby regardless of its health and the results don't matter then you should do the procedure .
My mom had it and she said it was very painful
Hi thank you for your comment i have never heard this test causing down syndrome nor does it come up in any research i have done. How do you know this? thank you
The test does not cause down's syndrome, ds is chromosomal, in other words it happens during conception/division of the cells. However, amniocentises can cause miscarriage or put your pregnancy at risk. You have to discuss the risks with your OB to determine what your risk of miscarriage may be, and what your benefits of testing are.
Mine was 1 in 10 Chance. I didn't do the amino because its unnecessary now. They can do it entirely through blood work.
Hi here in New Zealand we don't have the option if detecting Down syndrome through a blood test I am booked in on Monday for an amnio really nervous though
A 1 in 250 chance isn't worth it to me to get the amnio. 1 in 250 means your baby only has a 0.004% chance of having DS. I was given a 1 in 100 chance and I didn't get the amnio. The chance of damages happening to you and your baby from the amniocentesis are higher than the chance that your baby will have Down Syndrome.
I didn't find it painful at all but everyone is different. There is a very small risk of a miscarriage, but the test will tell you everything you want to know.
Thank you for your comment that's really reassuring
Thank you all for your comments I had amnio done yesterday and all went well just waiting results
