Antipsychotics while pregnant?

I have bipolar and I've been on antipsychotics (quetiapine) for 5 years and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I've tried to stop taking them previously and I can't sleep at all and my moods and emotions goes pretty crazy which also affects my relationship very negatively. I have spoken to my doctor but he didn't really help me much. I really don't want the pills to hurt my baby. Does anyone have any experience or advise regarding this please? Thank you :)

All bipolar means is that you can't control your emotions. Just try taking more control of yourself, shouldn't be that hard. I wouldn't recommend taking the pills while pregnant cause it could effect the baby and possibly the baby could come out bipolar cause its used to having that medication in its system. And you wouldn't want to have to deal with an emotional baby crying constantly

I'm bipolar as well and I was on the same thing my doctor had me stop taking it as soon as I found out I was pregnant because it can cause birth defects. I know it's hard but sometimes when I can't sleep I just lay there with my eyes closed and letting my body rest. As for the moods and emotional chaos I've been telling everyone exactly what I'm feeling and why I believe I'm feeling that way. After saying it out loud it helps me get it under control. I hope this helped

which doctor did u ask about the medication? The OB/GYN or the psychiatrist? The medication you're taking is Pregnancy Category C which means it's recommended u don't take it. I suggest u ask the psych doc about switching to a safer alternative for pregnancy. Women who need them can take psych meds during pregnancy. You n your doc just have to talk about options. The OB/GYN won't know too much about them but when u find out which one u can take, just let him know. He needs to know u n your baby very well. If he's still a jerk n brushes off the issue then I suggest seeing another doctor.
