Baby food question for moms...

I went to the maternal and child community but it seemed soo slow and I know a lot of the ladies here are moms so I figured I'd try my question here:

Have you ever made your own baby food?  I'm toying with the idea...seems simple enough...I'm just curious how it worked for others if they gave it a try...

Thanks!

I made them at the beginning.  I just put all the veggies/fruits into a steamer (of course at separate times, not mixed).  Steamed them until they were soft, then plopped them into the food processor.  After that I would put them into ice cube trays.  Let them freeze overnight then pop them out and stick them into ziploc baggies: Label them with the item and when it was made.  Most sites I looked at said they were good in the freezer for 1 month, after that I noticed some got freezer burnt.  I eventually stopped doing it because after he had tried each food on it's own (in case of allergies) I wanted to start mixing more.  The whole 1 month storage (for me) was not good for variety.  I guess it would work if you didnt make as much each time, so it isnt wasteful.  It also took time to make each one....30 mintues to cook, then add on prep time (peeling and slicing), then add on clean up.  So it was easily an hour or more for me.

I know you wanted to hear from someone who had already been making the food, but I didn't with my first. When he started eating adult foods he had a really hard time because he was used to the bland tasting baby foods- adult food was just to strong for him. Anyway, for this reason, I am making my next baby's food ( I am due in March).

I bought a recipe book filled with ideas for making baby foods- and enough for each stage.
Also, Williams Sonoma sells a great little baby food processor- here is the webpage:

I used to make my own apple sauce for Noah, I would slice the apples really thin and put them in a pan with just enough water to cover them, boil the water until they are really soft and then mash them until the desired consistency.  You can pretty much do that with any veggie or fruit. Noah loved mashed bananas and avocados too.

I saw the recipes, and bookmarked them...seemed simple...it said that a weeks worth of food can be made within 30 minutes once a week and stored in your freezer for up to 2 months so if you make extra it can still be used.  Sounded good but I was hoping to hear from someone who has actually done it...so, let me know how it goes this weekend =)

You can do internet searches for homemade recipes - I haven't yet but am planning on doing it this weekend.  I have friends who do it regularly.  They say it's quick and simple!
