Anyone had surgery during pregnancy?

Ok, here's my situation. I have a heart disorder called Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia. I won't bore everyone with the details of it, but I've had two catheter ablations and a pacemaker implanted then because of one of the surgeries.  I just found out yesterday that I need to get another lead put in my pacemaker because one isn't doing the job anymore and my heart is having lots of arrythmias and is skipping beats a  bunch.  My cardiologist is hoping that we'll be able to wait until after the baby is born to do the surgery, but he's not completely confident we'll be able to. They have me on a 3 week heart monitor to see exactly how bad the arrythmias are. When I had my pacemaker implanted I wasn't completely under, they had me in a "twilight" state with a local anesthesia. I couldn't feel pain but could feel pressure.I really hope I won't need the surgery til after the baby comes (19 more weeks) but if I have to, does anyone have experience with surgery during pregnancy?

I understand :( I have a leaky aortic valve so I have chronic tachycardia and I'm going to be on a beta-blocker this whole pregnancy. It freaks me out, so I can only imagine how worried you are....I think you'll be fine though :)

thank you. The doctor did say that since I'm over 20 weeks it should be ok, but it still makes me really nervous.  Its bad enough that I'm worrying about my heart having an effect on the baby. This hasn't made things any better.

Yes when I was 34 weeks pregnant they put me completely under general to insert a stent into my kidney to drain it and to manually remove 2 stones (there were still 2 more I was passing that they couldn't remove). Apparently the baby stayed awake the entire procedure and was kicking at the urologist every time he tried to put the tube into my kidney. I was scared to death but everything turned out fine and my daughter is now 15 months and has never been sick and (knock on wood) seems to have no developmental issues at all. She's perfect :). I think after 20 weeks you should be fine; the baby's surprisingly self-sustaining and they're WAY tougher than we think. If you end up not being able to wait, try not to stress too much (believe me I know from experience way easier said than done) if they put you on twilight they can bring you right back out if the baby's heartbeat starts doing anything funky, but you should be absolutely fine :).
