Anyone have any experience with metformin?

I'm wondering if anyone has taken metformin to help you become pregnant, and if there were any side effects with it. I took one 500mg pill on Friday but am scared to take anymore because it upset my stomach so bad! Anyone have any success stories? How long were you on it?

My friend became pregant after taking it for 2 months (she has PCOS)...I'm not sure it was the Metformin or luck......

I checked it out real quick but I got freaked out when I read some women experience hair loss too! I don't need any other issues!!! The price you pay for trying to have a baby!!! Thx for the info. and again...good luck to ya!!! I hope you get a BFP real soon too!

Oh and if you haven't already, go check out that forum because you'll get a TON OF INFO about Metformin and other women who've become pregnant or who are TTC. My username there is njeosys but I rarely get on.

Yeah, it can be pretty nasty stuff as your body adjusts to it. I didn't have any side effects but some women get really really sick. I'm sure when I up the dosage again, though, that I may feel some adverse affects!

I just recently started taking Met two months ago. I didn't have PCOS until after the birth of my 2nd daughter. I believe I caught it in the very beginning stages. I actually don't have insulin/glucose problems. Just abnormal hormones and some cysts.

Some women can get pregnant as early as 2 months into taking Metformin. I think it just depends on many factors:
1). your dosage
2). how your body reacts
3). the stage or intensity of your PCOS (as everyone is different)
4). whether or not you're ovulating

So hopefully you get a BFP really soon!

I am on it for PCOS. Yep, she did say it could probably cause stomach upset but I felt awful! Did metformin help you to become pregnant before? My hubby's cousin said she took it for 4 years before becoming pregnant!!! Her cycles are very widespread though. Mine are about every 2 months or so. Good luck the end of the week!!!!

Well are you on Metformin for diabetes or PCOS? Not that it matters, but just wondering. I take 1000mg of Metformin a day. Metformin will upset your stomach, cause diarrhea, etc. but that only lasts a couple weeks. I'm currently in my 2nd month of taking Metformin and I'm taking a pregnancy test at the end of the week!

Did your doctor not explain the side effects? Upset stomach is a normal side effect. Check out soulcysters (dot) net and click on their Metformin forum.
