Anyone who's had GD...

Okay, I just got a call from my OB's office and I failed my 1 hr glucose test. So now I'm worried that I may have GD. I am going back for the 3 hr test this Friday and hoping everything comes back normal this time but I would like to get an idea of what having Gestational Diabetes entails. What kind of special precautions or course of action will my dr be taking? What will I have to do to ensure that my baby is okay? I just want to be prepared to do all that I can, no matter what it is, to make sure my baby's kept out of harm's way. Any information on the subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had GD and I gave birth to a completely healthy 7lb 13oz baby girl.  I controlled mine with diet.  I stayed away from sugary things and simple carbs(I ate complex cabs).  for snacks instead of granola bars I would have nuts or cheese.  I was lucky that my case was not bad enough to warrant insulin.  I had to take my blood 3 times a day. 2 hours after every meal.  Towards the end of my pregnancy, my numbers were getting a bit higher, but thats because as the baby grown, so does the placenta, and it is hormones within the placenta that cause GD.Try not to worry too much.  A lot of people fail the one hour test and go on to pass the three hour.
