TSH levels too high?

My wife and I are expecting, we are now 29.5 wks!  She has anemia and has been pre pregnancy taking iron and a multivit...in jan of 2010 we had a miscarriage, the tsh was 4.5.  Not knowing if that was normal, in April, a physical was performed by our fam dr, tsh was 2.5.  We got pregnant in june 2010 and the first blood test did not check for tsh unfortunately as our dr did not ask for this (nor t4,t3 levels)  The doctor knew that my wife had got tired sometimes and in APril checked the tsh levels and felt 2.5 was okay.  A couple weeks ago, tsh levels were 4.36 and she said its okay.  Recent studies say it should be less than 3, she referred us to the obgyn and now he agrees with us it is slightly high and it may subclinical hypothyroid.  We did the blood test yest, we await the results.  Reading this stuff on the internet is causing a lot of distress for us.  Neural development could be delayed, etc.  We are fine with taking thyroitropin meds..just ***** it wasnt measured in first trimester..we hope it wasnt really high then..any helpful advice from a helpful experience would be awesome!  thanks

Tsh is thyroid not iron proudmum.

Yes elivates tsh can cause fatigue however pregnancy can cause this as well but symptoms or not yes the level is too high. I can tell you this much, my mother had low thyroid and is can cause mental retardation and so on and she gave birth to me. I have no neural defects no disabilities and matter of fact I am 27 and finishing up my PhD so it didn't lead to mental retardation either. It more as to do with genetics than anything else. Try not to worry about it too much. Yea it s$cks that they didn't catch and treat this at the beginning of pregnancy but better now than never right?
