Baby Furniture for Sleeping-- Opinions?

Mommies that have babies already, what are your opinions on the sleeping furniture that is available to us now? I had originally wanted to do a bassinet/crib set-up, but my mother told me they were a waste of money and told me to go with a pack and play instead because the baby will grow with it and later on it would be a play space for my daughter. However, recently I've seen research that shows babies who sleep in pack and plays for extended periods of time develop back problems later in life. I'm still in the second trimester, so I have time, but it would be a huge load off on my mind if I could figure this out soon. So, opinions, ladies?

I'll do a bassinet for the first month or two and then crib. I'll admit I bought everything and my son ended up sleeping in bed with me. My husband worked on the road and it made nursing so much easier. Pluss I am such a light sleeper I would wake up if he even wiggled. I personally don't like the pack and play much. They make me nervous. My son never really spent time in his until he was 9 months or so. It looks shakey and it's not as good for there back.

I'm getting a crib that converts into a toddler bed, and then a twin bed. These are really handy seeing how they can last until your new born is in grade school. I got mine from Burlington....it was $220 I believe

Maybe this would be better in the Baby Products subforum. Can I get a mod to move this thread? Much thanks. :)
