When I was getting my ultrasound, the baby "woke up" from the technician moving the stick thingie around. It was so cute! If you are getting an internal one, just tell her/him to move the stick around a little too.
I was told at my u/s sound to cough to get the baby to move. They wanted the baby's chin to come off its chest so they could get an accurate measurement of the fold in the back of the babys neck for the sequential screening (testing for DS and other disorders). Sure enough as soon as I coughed the baby was moving all over the place.
I agree with the other ladies, caffine and sugar should be good ways to get your little one kicking! I know they also say that COLD water or juice works... I like to combine the 2 and go for a Slurpee right before u/s appointments... REALLY COLD, FULL of sugar, and caffine too if you get a coke or mt dew one! and super YUMMY!! LOL!
yea, anything w/sugar or caffiene will make baby move. basically at 12w the placenta takes over for supplying nutrients to baby therefor when you eat stuff it can go to the baby.
Bluegenie~ the NT test should be done between 11-13w. preferably at 12w to even be accurate. and you can have up to 300 mg caffiene a day according to most guidelines. so if you want/crave soda or coffee go ahead and indulge.
After this I get them once a month. I've gotten so many so far because my RE did two before he would "discharge me" from the fertility clinic, and then my high risk and my regular OB each did one the first time I came to them. This one on Monday is for the NT test, so hopefully everything works out well! I'll try drinking something with caffeine to try to wake him up :-) I haven't had ANYTHING with caffeine in several weeks, so hopefully the baby will react.
i heard having a caffinated drink like mountain dew right before the u/s will work to make it wiggle. my peanut was sleeping my first u/s too but then the gel got cold on my belly and when she touched me with the wand i jerked a little cuz it was cold and then the baby wriggled and its little hands and feet kicked up...it was really cute. i can understand why you want to see it move, its very reasurring even if u "know" everything is ok! GL with the appt. im high risk too and you still get more appts then me! i get u/s once a month i think.
