the one hour isnt so bad. They didnt take my blood though for the one hour they just pricked my finger and put it in the sugar machine and i found out right then.
i just got back from my test...I had to fast...they took blood and urine then i drank the orange drink waited an hour and she took more blood...She said when the dr got the results he would let me know if i had to do the three hour
when i went in for my glucose test they told me to eat but not to eat anything with alot of sugar in it that way it wouldnt through off the test.
So i just got a call back from the nurse and they are having me do the other 3-hour which is me fasting then going in and then take my blood then drink the nasty stuff again and then i can go eat a "really good meal" and then come back 2 hours later for more blood work. I told her i think this one would be better because i get sick when I dont eat and i think that is why i got sick this morning. i will do it tomorrow or monday.
They gave me a perscription to go to a lab and get the 3 hour done and they did the one hour in the office. i guess it depends.
i'm going for my test tomorrow morning...if the test comes back bad and you have to do the 3 hr do you do right then or do they make you come back? Just wondering...
maybe one day they will come up w/ a way to do the test w/out consuming a nauseating drink first!!! (although i guess that doesn't help us doing this now!)
LOL tell me about it. when i went i drank it as fast as i could and almost imediatley my stomach was churning and it took everything in my power not to throw it up. I felt like that the whole 3 hours but i just kept telling myself over and over "if you throw up you have to drink more of that stuff and sit here for another rediculous amount of time" Luckily it stayed down, and instead of going back to work, i had to go home and sleep it off b/c i could barely function and still felt horrible.
oh!!! i didn't know the drink was more... yuck! as if the amount they give you the first time wasn't disgusting enough, right?
Its b/c the fluid drink they give you is double the size and they need to take your level first before eatting anything so they can compare everything better. If you end up failing and they have you checking your levels on your own like i have to you will have to test your sugar every morning before you eat anything and then you will have to check it 2 hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner.
i've never had to take the 3hr test before... why do they tell you to fast before that one, but not the first one?
By the way... with my first pregnancy they didn't have me fast. They told me to eat like I normally would. And my results came back normal. So eating won't necessarily alter the test.
Hopefully they'll allow you to eat something before you go in next time!
