Bacteria Vaginosis in Pregnancy

Hi, I am 14wks pregnant and have been experiencing a fishy odor after sex. From what I read on internet, I'm sure it's Baterial Vaginosis. I have mentioned this to my doctor and he reckons unless I have itching, irritation etc. it's not that serious and don't need to be treated for it. He also says that my mucous plug will keep it away from baby so I've nothing to worry about. But I also read it can cause preterm labour and complications. I'm really worried that it might affect my pregnancy or rather cause a miscarriage. I'm not 100% happy with my Dr.s advice.

Has anyone ever had this BV and not had it treated during pregnancy? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks alot ladies. Yes you confirmed all my thoughts. I told him my concerns re: preterm labour etc. but he just didn't think I needed to be worried if it wasn't severe. I'm def going to get tested for it- and treated.

Thanks againn!

The other ladies are right you need to be tested and get on antibiotics. I would recommend considering a different doctor as well. You need to be treated because yes it can cause complications if left untreated.

Definitely ask to be tested for it!! I had BV during my pregnancy and had no symptoms of it whatsoever! If I didn't bring it up, I am not sure I would have been tested. I was put on antibiotics and it went away. I also was experiencing pre-term labor, but it continued even after I was treated for it, but I am pretty sure BV started my contractions early on. If your OB is not willing to listen to you, I would definitely get a second opinion.

I had BV when I was pregnant with my son.  You need to be on antibiotics, if you have it.  Ask to get tested, because I was told it can cause a miscarriage.  Good luck.

I would ask to be tested for it and bring up your concern about preterm labor and whatever other complications are associated with BV to your doctor to let them know that you find this serious and want to be taken seriously.

If they won't help you then seriously consider switching to a different OB, even if it is someone else in the same practice.
